Synopsis Fragments of Bone by : Patrick Bellegarde-Smith
In Fragments of Bone, thirteen essayists discuss African religions as forms of resistance and survival in the face of Western cultural hegemony and imperialism. The collection presents scholars working outside of the Western tradition with backgrounds in a variety of disciplines, genders, and nationalities. These experts draw on research, fieldwork, personal interviews, and spiritual introspection to support a provocative thesis: that fragments of ancestral traditions are fluidly interwoven into New World African religions as creolized rituals, symbolic systems, and cultural identities. Contributors: Osei-Mensah Aborampah, Niyi Afolabi, Patrick Bellegarde-Smith, Randy P. Conner, T. J. Desch-Obi, Ina Johanna Fandrich, Kean Gibson, Marilyn Houlberg, Nancy B. Mikelsons, Roberto Nodal, Rafael Ocasio, Miguel "Willie" Ramos, and Denise Ferreira da Silva

Synopsis Bone Fragments a Body Can Make by : SD. Stout
Data obtained from various analytical techniques applied to a number of small bone fragments recovered from a crime scene were used to provide evidence for the occurrence of a fatality. Microscopic and histomorphometric analyses confirmed that the fragments were from a human skull. X-ray microanalysis of darkened areas on the bone fragments revealed a chemical signature that matched the chemical signature of a shotgun pellet recovered at the scene of the crime. The above findings supported the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) fingerprint evidence which, along with other evidence, was used to convict a man for the murder of his wife, even though her body was never recovered.

Synopsis A New Method of Direct Fixation of the Fragments in Compound and Ununited Fractures (Classic Reprint) by : Nicholas Senn
Excerpt from A New Method of Direct Fixation of the Fragments in Compound and Ununited Fractures Riedinger1 made experiments on animals in reference to the fate of ivory nails and fragments Of bone and other material implanted into living bone. Wood, rubber, etc., produced in every instance suppuration, and was invariably eliminated. Ivory and fragments of bone, even if taken from another species of animals, produced no such result, and were gradually reduced in size, and finally disappeared. He made the observation that the speed with which the material disappeared by absorption depended on the vascularity of the bone. In one experiment a fragment of bone which was driven into a perforation Of the shaft of a long bone did not undergo absorption except that part which projected into the medullary cavity. He ascertained, also, by his experiments that ivory or bone pegs driven into the shaft of a long bone brought about elongation of the bone. Two ivory pegs inserted into the left tibia of a dog increased the length of the bone 4 mm. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis Prediction of Bone Length from Bone Fragments by : Kanudeep Kaur
Forensic anthropology, as a sub-discipline of applied physical anthropology, since its inception has contributed immensely in crime scene investigations especially in identification of unknown skeletal material. It is established through numerous studies that long limbs bones have a definite relationship with stature of an individual and thus the length of a long bone could be used to predict the stature. Keeping this in view it is hypothesized that the linear, transverse, sagittal and circumferential dimensions of a long bone should also have a positive relationship with bone length almost in the same manner as a long bone length has it with stature. The present study, conducted on dry and fully ossified long bones; namely humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia and fibula aims at assessing the bilateral variations if any in the fragmentary measures of different long bones, correlation pattern between different fragmentary measurements and bone length, to formulate linear regression equations for estimation of bone length from fragmentary measurements and to identify certain new measurements for estimation of bone length, which have not been used by other researchers.
