Synopsis Technology and Knowledge Flow by : Guglielmo Trentin
This book outlines how network technology can support, foster and enhance the Knowledge Management, Sharing and Development (KMSD) processes in professional environments through the activation of both formal and informal knowledge flows. Understanding how ICT can be made available to such flows in the knowledge society is a factor that cannot be disregarded and is confirmed by the increasing interest of companies in new forms of software-mediated social interaction. The latter factor is in relation both to the possibility of accelerating internal communication and problem solving processes, and/or in relation to dynamics of endogenous knowledge growth of human resources. The book will focus specifically on knowledge flow (KF) processes occurring within networked communities of professionals (NCP) and the associated virtual community environments (VCE) that foster horizontal dynamics in the management, sharing and development of fresh knowledge. Along this line a further key issue will concern the analysis and evaluation techniques of the impact of Network Technology use on both community KF and NCP performance. - The proposal of a taxonomy of Network Technology uses to support formal and informal knowledge flows - Analyses how Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technology is deeply modifying the dynamics connected to KF and KM - Discusses dynamics underlying horizontal KF sharing processes within NCP

Synopsis The Evolutionary Complexity of Endogenous Innovation by : Cristiano Antonelli
The notion of endogenous innovation as the outcome of the creative response of firms to out-of-equilibrium conditions is the cornerstone of the new evolutionary complexity. This book elaborates and applies the theoretical framework established in the author’s previous work Endogenous Innovation: The Economics of an Emergent System Property. This volume carefully explores the role of the reactivity of firms to out-of-equilibrium conditions. It also examines the quality of knowledge governance mechanisms in assessing the levels of externalities that define the likelihood of creative responses, as an alternative to adaptive responses.

Synopsis Platforms of Innovation by : Philip Cooke
This is a book of high interest for scholars, practitioners and policymakers interested in innovation, knowledge flows and respective policies. A number of well known authors investigate drivers of innovation, the dynamics of networks, and the role of platforms in both high and low-tech sectors applying a framework of knowledge capability, knowledge phases and "worlds of production" amongst others. Investigated sectors include food and drinks, tourism, automotive industry, ICT, media, KIBS, and biotechnology. Examples of private and public policy platforms illustrate the theme

Synopsis Knowledge Diffusion and Innovation by : Piergiuseppe Morone
The book uses state-of-the-art theorizing about a topic that has attracted a lot of attention in the past five years or so. It provides a very useful review of the literature, and is very well written and on a novel topic. I especially liked the methodological rigour in the exposition of the model, yet at the same time the text remains accessible to a wide readership. I highly recommend the book. Koen Frenken, Utrecht University, The Netherlands Modern economies are described as knowledge based . This book investigates the meaning of such a statement, assessing the relevance of knowledge and the channels through which knowledge is exchanged, both from a theoretical and an empirical perspective. Moving within the realm of complexity theory, the authors provide a methodological assessment of the knowledge diffusion debate as well as presenting theoretical and applied models of knowledge diffusion and innovation. They illustrate how geography plays a role in shaping innovative patterns and how dense networks generally result in more innovative environments. The book concludes that establishing the right connections within such dense networks appears to be more crucial than any other factor, thus highlighting the importance of linkages (or the effects of their absence) within innovation systems. Proposing a taxonomy of knowledge-sharing patterns, this book will be warmly welcomed by academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the areas of the economics of innovation, evolutionary economics and knowledge economics.

Synopsis The Role of Knowledge Transfer in Open Innovation by : Almeida, Helena
The ways in which codified and tacit knowledge are sourced, transferred, and combined are critical in furthering open innovation. When used effectively, knowledge sharing and organizational success are significantly increased, improving products and services. The Role of Knowledge Transfer in Open Innovation is a collection of innovative research on a set of analyses, reflections, and recommendations within the framework of knowledge transfer practices in different areas of knowledge and in various industries. While highlighting topics including tacit knowledge, organizational culture, and knowledge representation, this book is ideally designed for professionals, academicians, and researchers seeking current research on the best practices for transfer of knowledge as an intermediate open innovation.

Synopsis Endogenous Innovation by : Cristiano Antonelli
This ground-breaking new book builds upon the Schumpeterian creative response. The author shows that firms, in out-of-equilibrium conditions, try and react by means of introducing innovations. The success of their reaction is contingent upon their access conditions to knowledge, which are shaped by the system in which they operate. The emergence of new innovations can, in turn, knock firms further out-of-equilibrium and cause changes in the system properties that govern their access to external knowledge. This path dependent loop of interactions between the system properties and the individual actions of firms, accounts for endogenous innovation and the dynamics of the system.
