Synopsis Elementary Processes at High Energy Pt B by : A Zichichi

Elementary Processes at High Energy, Part B documents the proceedings of the eighth Course of the International School of Subnuclear Physics, held in Erice, Italy in July 1970. The said conference is devoted to different areas of great influence and importance to the field of particle physics. The book is divided into three parts. Part I covers specialized topics such as the status of some relevant problems in nuclear physics; possible failure of the Pomeranchuk Theorem; and external fields in the Lee-Wick Theory. Part II discusses the future of high-energy physics, and Part III is the closing lecture, which includes the history and present status of weak interactions. The text is recommended for physicists who would like to know more about the advancements and the general direction of research in particle physics, high-energy physics, and related fields.

Synopsis Elementary Processes at High Energy Pt A by : A Zichichi

Elementary Processes at High Energy, Part A covers the proceedings of the eighth Course of The International School of Subnuclear Physics held in Erice, Italy, in July 1970. The said conference is focused on the study of phenomenological approaches to particle physics as well as other specialized topics in the field. The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 discusses electron position annihilators; weak interactions; and hadron processes at higher energies. Part 2 covers topics such as rigorous results from field theory and unitarity; finite theory of quantum electrodynamics; and models for hadronic reactions. Part 3 topics include gravitation; symmetry principles in physics; and electromagnetic production of hadronic resonances. The text is recommended for physicists, especially those who are interested in the developments in the field of particle physics.

Synopsis Introduction to High Energy Physics by : Donald H. Perkins

This highly-regarded text provides a comprehensive introduction to modern particle physics. Extensively rewritten and updated, this 4th edition includes developments in elementary particle physics, as well as its connections with cosmology and astrophysics. As in previous editions, the balance between experiment and theory is continually emphasised. The stress is on the phenomenological approach and basic theoretical concepts rather than rigorous mathematical detail. Short descriptions are given of some of the key experiments in the field, and how they have influenced our thinking. Although most of the material is presented in the context of the Standard Model of quarks and leptons, the shortcomings of this model and new physics beyond its compass (such as supersymmetry, neutrino mass and oscillations, GUTs and superstrings) are also discussed. The text includes many problems and a detailed and annotated further reading list.

Synopsis Neutrons and Related Gamma Ray Problems / Neutronen und Verwandte Gammastrahlprobleme by : Edoardo Amaldi

661 tures, such as occurs in stellar atmospheres and in thermonuc1ear processes, will not be considered 1. Because photoelectric absorption predominates completely at low photon energies, and penetration theory is elementary under these conditions, attention is directed in this artic1e to photon energies above ""20 kev. On the high energy side, this artic1e does not cover the cascade shower processes which are dealt 2 with in cosmic ray studies • In this connection it is recalled that the cascade shower process, which involves electrons and positrons besides X rays, becomes predominant above 10 Mev in heavy elements, and above 100 Mev in light ones. Theories developed for the study of cascade showers in cosmic rays rely on assumptions about the prob ability of interactions with matter which are adequate only at energies of the order of 1 Gev or more. Below this energy there is a gap in which penetration phenomena are qualitatively known and understood but have not yet been calculated in detail. A few detailed experimental studies which have been made at energies up to 300 Mev will be reviewed in this article.

Synopsis Fundamental Aspects of Plasma Chemical Physics by : Mario Capitelli

Describing non-equilibrium "cold" plasmas through a chemical physics approach, this book uses the state-to-state plasma kinetics, which considers each internal state as a new species with its own cross sections. Extended atomic and molecular master equations are coupled with Boltzmann and Monte Carlo methods to solve the electron energy distribution function. Selected examples in different applied fields, such as microelectronics, fusion, and aerospace, are presented and discussed including the self-consistent kinetics in RF parallel plate reactors, the optimization of negative ion sources and the expansion of high enthalpy flows through nozzles of different geometries. The book will cover the main aspects of the state-to-state kinetic approach for the description of nonequilibrium cold plasmas, illustrating the more recent achievements in the development of kinetic models including the self-consistent coupling of master equations and Boltzmann equation for electron dynamics. To give a complete portrayal, the book will assess fundamental concepts and theoretical formulations, based on a unified methodological approach, and explore the insight in related scientific problems still opened for the research community.
