Synopsis Analysis and Data-Based Reconstruction of Complex Nonlinear Dynamical Systems by : M. Reza Rahimi Tabar

This book focuses on a central question in the field of complex systems: Given a fluctuating (in time or space), uni- or multi-variant sequentially measured set of experimental data (even noisy data), how should one analyse non-parametrically the data, assess underlying trends, uncover characteristics of the fluctuations (including diffusion and jump contributions), and construct a stochastic evolution equation? Here, the term "non-parametrically" exemplifies that all the functions and parameters of the constructed stochastic evolution equation can be determined directly from the measured data. The book provides an overview of methods that have been developed for the analysis of fluctuating time series and of spatially disordered structures. Thanks to its feasibility and simplicity, it has been successfully applied to fluctuating time series and spatially disordered structures of complex systems studied in scientific fields such as physics, astrophysics, meteorology, earth science, engineering, finance, medicine and the neurosciences, and has led to a number of important results. The book also includes the numerical and analytical approaches to the analyses of complex time series that are most common in the physical and natural sciences. Further, it is self-contained and readily accessible to students, scientists, and researchers who are familiar with traditional methods of mathematics, such as ordinary, and partial differential equations. The codes for analysing continuous time series are available in an R package developed by the research group Turbulence, Wind energy and Stochastic (TWiSt) at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Joachim Peinke. This package makes it possible to extract the (stochastic) evolution equation underlying a set of data or measurements.

Synopsis Advanced Solutions of Transport Systems for Growing Mobility by : Grzegorz Sierpiński

What are the parameters that should be taken into account in an advanced simulation model designed for a transport system that promotes green travelling policies? How can the goal of modal shift be pursued through ICT solutions? Is it enough to apply only a single criterion when planning transport systems? What is the importance of information acquisition and provision in Intelligent Transport Systems? Answers to these and many other questions can be found in this publication. It also contains numerous analyses based on relevant data sets, illustrating the close relationship between ITS and the changes observed in terms of how specific means of transport are used. What proves to be particularly important for advanced transport systems is the use of environmentally friendly solutions that reduce their negative environmental impacts; accordingly, the book also addresses this aspect. With regard to the research results discussed and the selected solutions applied, the book prim arily addresses the needs of three target groups: · Scientists and researchers (ITS field) · Local authorities (responsible for transport systems at the urban and regional level) · Representatives of business (traffic strategy management) and industry (manufacturers of ITS components) Advanced Solutions of Transport Systems for Growing Mobility gathers selected papers presented at the 14th “Transport Systems. Theory and Practice” Scientific and Technical Conference, organized by the Department of Transport Systems and Traffic Engineering at the Faculty of Transport of the Silesian University of Technology. The conference was held on 18-20 September 2017 in Katowice (Poland). More details at www.TSTP.polsl.pl

Synopsis Systems, Cybernetics, Control, and Automation by : Spyros G. Tzafestas

Systems, cybernetics, control, and automation (SCCA)are four interrelated and overlapping scientific and technological fields that have contributed substantially to the development, growth, and progress of human society. A large number of models, methods, and tools were developed that assure high efficiency of SCCA applied to practical situations. The real-life applications of SCCA encompass a wide range of man-made or biological systems, including transportations, power generation, chemical industry, robotics, manufacturing, cybernetics organisms (cyborgs), aviation, economic systems, enterprise, systems, medical/health systems, environmental applications, and so on. The SCCA fields exhibit strong influences on society and rise, during their use and application, many ethical concerns and dilemmas. This book provides a consolidated and concise overview of SCCA, in a single volume for the first time, focusing on ontological, epistemological, social impact, ethical, and general philosophical issues. It is appropriate for use in engineering courses as a convenient tutorial source providing fundamental conceptual and educational material on these issues, or for independent reading by students and scientists.Included in the book is:• Background material on philosophy and systems theory• Major ontological, epistemological, societal and ethical/philosophical aspects of the four fields that are considered in the book• Over 400 references and a list of 130 additional books in the relevant fields • Over 100 colored photos and 70 line figures that illustrate the text

Synopsis Methodologies For The Conception, Design And Application Of Soft Computing - Proceedings Of The 5th International Conference On Soft Computing And Information/intelligent Systems (In 2 Volumes) by : Gen Matsumoto

Soft computing is the common name for a certain form of natural information processing that has its original form in biology, especially in the function of human brain. It is a discipline rooted in a group of technologies such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, chaos, genetic algorithms, probabilistic reasoning and learning algorithms. Today, soft computing has become an acknowledged concept; however, for a long time, such components of soft computing have been debated and individually developed.Since its beginning in 1990, the series of IIZUKA conferences has covered various kinds of technologies that constitute soft computing. This series has played a pioneering role in promoting the development of a symbiotic relationship between the various technologies of soft computing. At IIZUKA'98, the 5th International Conference on Soft Computing and Information/Intelligent Systems, new developments and results in this field were introduced and discussed by researchers from academic, governmental and industrial institutions around the world. This volume presents the opening lecture by Prof. Walter J Freeman, the keynote speech by Dr Gen Matsumoto, the plenary lectures by 5 eminent researchers and about 230 carefully selected papers drawn from more than 25 countries. It documents current research and in-depth studies on the fundamental aspects of soft computing and their practical applications.
