Synopsis Driftmetal by : J.C. Staudt
Muller Jakes is a streamboat captain with a scoundrel's edge. He's built a name for himself - killing, swindling, and double-crossing his way across the skies in search of fortune and glory. When he's betrayed by his own crew after a heist gone wrong, Muller will forge his own path through the world of airships and windborne cities he calls home. The adventures to come will force him to question his loyalties, reevaluate his perceptions, and ultimately lead him toward a destiny greater than he ever expected. Twists, turns, leaps of faith, descents into depths, betrayals and redeeming social values... I recommend this to anyone who likes fast-paced reading and adventure." - Charlotte Babb "Lots of sarcastic fun in here. I shot beverage out my nose a few times so be warned. The funnies are dropped so unexpectedly sometimes you will find yourself hard pressed not to bark out a few guffaws. Very fun read. Very." - Stephen Dickinson "The narrative prose is rich and detailed. You really get the feel of what is going on, a great mental picture, which easily brings you into the story. There is action, adventure, drama, and danger all for the makings of a pulse racing read." - Sheri A. Wilkinson "A very original world... A good exciting tale with a lot of rousing action." - Peter Henderson "Lovers of science fiction/steampunk/cyberpunk style stories will enjoy this quite a bit." - A Drop of Ink Reviews Keywords: steampunk, airships, dirigibles, floating islands, floating cities, flying ships, cyberpunk, androids, robots, science fiction, fantasy, ketty jay, action, adventure, violence, anti-hero, young male lead, coming of age

Synopsis Infrared and Millimeter Waves by : Kenneth Button
Infrared and Millimeter Waves, Volume 1: Sources of Radiation explores modern sources of radiation available for use in the far-infrared and near-millimeter wavelength range of the spectrum. This book describes the operating principles and comparative performances of all three types of device: electron tubes, solid state devices, and optically pumped lasers. This volume is comprised of seven chapters; the first of which reviews the developments in the design and construction of high-power, high-efficiency millimeter sources and in the nonlinear theory for cyclotron masers. The second chapter deals with IMPATT devices for millimeter-wave power generation, with emphasis on device physics design considerations as well as cw and pulsed operations of IMPATT oscillators and amplifiers at millimeter frequencies. The chapters that follow focus on optically pumped lasers, backward wave oscillators, the Ledatron, and infrared and submillimeter-wave waveguides. This book concludes with a discussion on free electron lasers based on stimulated scattering from relativistic electron beams. An original reformulation of stimulated scattering theory that attempts to encompass all previous treatments is described and compared with available experimental data. This text also presents a semi-qualitative analysis of nonlinear saturation. This book will appeal to scientists and professional engineers.
