Synopsis Diary of Hank the Villager Trilogy by : Mark Mulle
GENRE: Children's Adventure (An Unofficial Minecraft Book for Kids Ages 9 - 12 (Preteen) Book 1: Monster Enthusiast Hank is anything but your average Villager. Most Villagers get along just fine, hanging out in the villages and leading simple lives. Hank wanted more out of life. Ever since Hank was little he was fascinated by all sorts of mobs, but mostly the monstrous ones. Now that Hank is all grown up he owns a farm and keeps a few animal mobs on it. He still wants more, though. Hank has a mission--to find monster mobs and teach the rest of the village how cool they can be. Even though the other Villagers don't exactly see eye to eye with Hank, he still wants to go through with his plan. Hank plans his great adventure! He travels all over Overworld and meets many different kinds of monsters, making friends with all of them. It is a little harder to get some of the monsters than others, so will Hank be able to do it? Book 2: Search for the Ender Dragon Hank the Villager has lead a rather exciting life in the last month. In his last diary, Hank went around all of Overworld and collected a ton of different monsters and other mobs. In his travels Hank has met and befriended spiders, skeletons, creepers, blazes, magma cubes, snow golems, iron golems, and even zombies of every type! While this may sound like an exciting note to end on for any other villager, Hank still wants more. What does Hank want exactly? Hank craves to have the ultimate monsters to himself: the Ender dragon. Hank realizes that he won't be able to do something this crazy by himself, so he gets some of his monster friends, and his villager friend Sara, to help him along the way. In Hank's second diary he will seek help from a mysterious witch, an old written myth, and his friends. He will travel all over Overworld, into the Ender world, and even into The End. While this task might be impossible for anyone else, there's something special about Hank that helps him get through all of this...something he didn't even know about himself until now. Will Hank be able to travel through all three worlds unharmed? What kinds of creatures will he see in his travels? And will he even be able to capture the Enderdragon and leave The End alive? Book 3: Ender Dragon Master Hank the Villager is back in his third diary, Hank the Villager 3: Ender dragon Master. Hank has wanted to have one of each monster since he was just a little Villager. He was able to do this in his first diary, but he still wanted more. In his second diary, Hank and a few of his monster friends went on a journey to find an Ender dragon. Without anyone knowing, Hank stole an Ender dragon egg from The End. Now the egg has hatched and Hank has a baby Ender dragon on his hands. At first, Hank has no idea what he should do with the baby Ender dragon. Should he leave his village and his friends to raise and train it, or should he get rid of the baby Ender dragon before it causes any problems? Training an Ender dragon would take a lot of hard work, and Hank hasn't exactly trained anything this scary before. No matter what Hank decides, there will definitely be an adventure that comes his way. Does Hank have what it takes to be the Ender dragon Master that he read about in the myth of Fabula, or is it someone else? Will the Ender dragon become Hank's friend or foe? What will the other Villagers think of the Ender dragon? All of these questions and more will be answered in Hank's third diary. Synopsis New Earth by : Ben Bova
Award-winning author Ben Bova brings us New Earth, his latest tale of science fiction in his Grand Tour series. The entire world is thrilled by the discovery of a new Earthlike planet. Advance imaging shows that the planet has oceans of liquid water and a breathable oxygen-rich atmosphere. Eager to gain more information, a human exploration team is soon dispatched to explore the planet, now nicknamed New Earth. All of the explorers understand that they are essentially on a one-way mission. The trip takes eighty years each way, so even if they are able to get back to Earth, nearly 200 years will have elapsed. They will have aged only a dozen years thanks to cryonic suspension, but their friends and family will be gone and the very society that they once knew will have changed beyond recognition. The explorers are going into exile, and they know it. They are on this mission not because they were the best available, but because they were expendable. Upon landing on the planet they discover something unexpected: New Earth is inhabited by a small group of intelligent creatures who look very much like human beings. Who are these people? Are they native to this world, or invaders from elsewhere? While they may seem inordinately friendly to the human explorers, what are their real motivations? What do they want? Moreover, the scientists begin to realize that this planet cannot possibly be natural. They face a startling and nearly unthinkable question: Could New Earth be an artifact? Synopsis Australian Soldiers in Asia-Pacific in World War II by : Lachlan Grant
Half a million Australians encountered a new world when they entered Asia and the Pacific during World War II: different peoples, cultures, languages and religions chafing under the grip of colonial rule. Moving beyond the battlefield, this book tells the story of how mid-century experiences of troops in Asia-Pacific shaped how we feel about our nation’s place in the region and the world. Spanning the vast region from New Guinea to Southeast Asia and India, Lachlan Grant uncovers affecting tales of friendship, grief, spiritual awakening, rebellion, incarceration, sex and souvenir hunting. Focusing on the day-to-day interactions between soldiers on the ground and the people and cultures they encountered, this book paints a picture not only of individual lives transformed, but of dramatically shifting national perceptions, as the gaze of Australia turned from Britain to Asia.

Synopsis The Thieving Collectors of Fine Children's Books by : Adam Perry
"A genre-bending, heart-pounding middle-grade romp into a potential future. . . . Perry's layered approach makes for a masterpiece that feels both familiar yet wholly new." --Shelf Awareness, STARRED REVIEW "This takes getting lost in a book to a whole new level. I loved it!" --James Riley, New York Times-bestselling author of the Story Thieves series "Once you start this book, you truly can't stop. An adventure full of cheeky charm and delightful whimsy." --Marie Lu, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of Skyhunter "A fast, fun, furiously inventive, and frequently frightful read." --Geoff Rodkey, New York Times-bestselling author of the Tapper Twins series and We're Not from Here This clever, fast-paced adventure is a mix of the Story Thieves series and Ready Player One! Oliver Nelson has a terrible secret-he's a thief. But he only steals books from the Garden Grove Library that are old, musty, brittle, or incomplete, like his favorite book, The Timekeeper's Children. No one reads anymore, and surely no one will miss them, right? Wrong. The Pribbles are famous inventors of the most popular toy in the world, alternate-reality goggles. They are also book collectors who are searching for The Timekeeper's Children, so the Pribbles hatch a plan. They invite Oliver, the last person to have checked it out, to their mansion and use special software from their goggles to steal the last remaining copy of the book--from inside Oliver's mind. Now, Oliver is thrust into the middle of the story and must help the main characters steal pieces scattered around the fictional world of Dulum to build a magical clock that can turn back time before the evil sorcerer Sigil takes over. They'll encounter hideous giants, bloodsucking bats, vicious eels, a Nasty Rodent Eater, a gang of wicked children, and a strange, dark figure that follows them from chapter to chapter, all the while with the Pribbles in pursuit. Can Oliver save Dulum before Sigil destroys everything? And will he finish The Timekeeper's Children before the Pribbles steal it from his mind?

Synopsis Horror Literature through History [2 volumes] by : Matt Cardin
This two-volume set offers comprehensive coverage of horror literature that spans its deep history, dominant themes, significant works, and major authors, such as Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, and Anne Rice, as well as lesser-known horror writers. Many of today's horror story fans—who appreciate horror through movies, television, video games, graphic novels, and other forms—probably don't realize that horror literature is not only one of the most popular types of literature but one of the oldest. People have always been mesmerized by stories that speak to their deepest fears. Horror Literature through History shows 21st-century horror fans the literary sources of their favorite entertainment and the rich intrinsic value of horror literature in its own right. Through profiles of major authors, critical analyses of important works, and overview essays focused on horror during particular periods as well as on related issues such as religion, apocalypticism, social criticism, and gender, readers will discover the fascinating early roots and evolution of horror writings as well as the reciprocal influence of horror literature and horror cinema. This unique two-volume reference set provides wide coverage that is current and compelling to modern readers—who are of course also eager consumers of entertainment. In the first section, overview essays on horror during different historical periods situate works of horror literature within the social, cultural, historical, and intellectual currents of their respective eras, creating a seamless narrative of the genre's evolution from ancient times to the present. The second section demonstrates how otherwise unrelated works of horror have influenced each other, how horror subgenres have evolved, and how a broad range of topics within horror—such as ghosts, vampires, religion, and gender roles—have been handled across time. The set also provides alphabetically arranged reference entries on authors, works, and specialized topics that enable readers to zero in on information and concepts presented in the other sections.
