Synopsis Dayton and Beyond by : Christophe Solioz
In this book, recognized international and Bosnian experts and analysts address the future of Bosnia in the area of constitutional reform, economic development, culture and education. A provocative introductory section asks whether the Dayton agreement has failed to create stable institutions of government able to deal with the challenges the country faces on its way to Euro-Atlantic integration. Among the key issues debated in this volume are the primacy of individual over group rights, a recent court decision that all three ethnic groups are constituent throughout the country, the role of culture and education in reinforcing division rather than integration, and the abysmal economic record which is in large part due to policy failures. The book provides a differentiated picture of a complex situation and will be useful to those interested in Bosniaís triple transition process from war to peace, a one-party state to a liberal democracy, and a planned to a market economy. It goes beyond a simple snapshot of a countryís situation to suggest that a strategy focused on local ownership is now needed a point of direct relevance to peace missions elsewhere.

Synopsis Peace as War by : Dražen Pehar
The book is about the peace implementation process in Bosnia-Herzegovina viewed, or interpreted reasonably, as a continuation of war by other means. Twenty years after the beginning of the Dayton peace accords, we need to summarize the results: the author shares the general agreement in public opinion, according to which the process is a failure. Pehar presents a broad, yet sufficiently detailed, view of the entire peace agreement implementation that preserves 'the state of war,' and thus encourages the war-prone attitudes in the parties to the agreement. He examines the political and narratological underpinnings to the process of the imposed international (predominantly USA) interpretation of the Dayton constitution and peace treaty as a whole. The key issue is the – perhaps only semi-consciously applied – divide ut imperes strategy. After nearly twenty years, the peace in document was not translated into a peace on the ground because, with regard to the key political and constitutional issues and attitudes, Bosnia remains a deeply divided society. The book concludes that the international supervision served a counter-purpose: instead of correcting the aberration and guarding the meaning that was originally accepted in the Dayton peace treaty, the supervision approved the aberration and imposed it as a new norm under the clout of 'the power of ultimate interpretation.'

Synopsis Bosnia and Beyond by : Jeanne M. Haskin
Could we, should we, have prevented the break up of Yugoslavia? Can genocide be prevented or halted? The author examines the dire consequences of the rapid economic reforms demanded by the West and asks where responsibility lies when external pressures destroy a nation and lead to genocide. Bosnia and Beyond: The "Quiet" Revolution That Wouldn't Go Quietly is, in part, the story of how the West destroyed a country through the imposition of economic and political reform. Promoted as a way to modernize Yugoslavia and bring it into the mainstream, the program was in fact meant to bring down the Communist government in a "quiet revolution" of the type that was envisaged for other former Soviet bloc countries. Showing how Western plans for the liberalization of the country resulted in ethnic polarization and the election of ethno-nationalist leaders, the book then goes on to describe the events of the war. The struggle of the republics for independence was yet another proxy war, which the West encouraged in order to chastise Milosevic and nudge him into becoming the man that they wanted him to be. While no formal plan has surfaced to show that the whole thing was engineered to provide a base for US/NATO troops, on the other hand, the situation was so egregious that intervention was highly sought and that the West had an obligation to clean up its mess, which it finally did. Many have been emotionally manipulated into being grateful for NATO intervention, and then it was quite convenient that a NATO base existed. But how does one say that intervention was needful, and then point the finger at the intervening forces? One can claim that Germany, Austria and the Vatican were in favor of Croatian and Slovenian secession and the United States came late to the game to demand Bosnian independence. It can also be claimed that Britain and France did not stand in the way of Serbian secession within Bosnia and Croatia but rather promoted their goals. Yugoslavia was a case of secession within secession, raising the question of who was supported by whom in either case. The work considers the research and views of a wide range of scholars, historians, journalists and humanitarian writers such as Cohen and Reisman, Udoviki and Ridgeway Eds, Norman Cigar, Laura Silber and Alan Little, Danielle Sremac, Michael Walzer, Ed Vulliamy, Peter Maas, Samantha Power, Peter du Preez, Lawrence Freedman, Hoffman, Johansen and Sterba, Ervin Staub and Thomas Mockaitis.

Synopsis Dayton's Department Store by : Mary Firestone
Dayton's department store, grand in scope and company spirit, enjoyed a century in the limelight as one of the nation's leading retailers. Its disappearance has been a challenge to the community, but it is a sign of the times, as many other urban department stores have shared the same fate. Originally called Goodfellows, the store got its start in 1902 when real estate investor and banker George Draper Dayton became a silent partner in the business. He soon took over the company but had to learn the ropes of retail as he went along since he had never intended to become a merchant. The early years were not without struggles, but Dayton's department store was nevertheless an instant hit with its daylight-filled aisles, generous return policies, and quality merchandise. The Minneapolis store became a vibrant self-contained community with a post office, newspaper, infirmary, laundry, bakery, and even a college. "Daytonians" worked and played together around the clock, in baseball and bowling teams, glee clubs, and orchestras. Over time, the reach of Dayton's extended far into the upper Midwest, with stores in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, including the development of the nation's first indoor mall.

Synopsis Nature Based Awakening by : Dayton Mason
After searching for spirituality for nearly two decades, and growing weary of attending endless retreats, techniques, and teachers. Dayton Mason had finally had enough and decided to call off searching and meditating altogether, and simply to rely upon the trees and nature's built-in guidance. What followed was a profound, natural alignment into a state of pure ego-less consciousness, reality, bliss and one with all that is. Nature-Based awakening is Dayton's story and it unpacks the idea and process of enlightenment. The book also explains the narrative of the ego-life, explores spiritual roadblocks for the modern seeker, gives helpful tips and tools for interacting with nature on a spiritual level for awakening purposes and even gives the reader a detailed guide for those who need help after awakening, should it occur. This book is a sincere, but simple and joyful approach for the tired spiritual warrior looking to awaken to reality.
