Synopsis Hurricane from the Heavens by : Daniel T. Davis
May 1864 had witnessed near-constant combat between his Army of the Potomac and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. Grant, unlike his predecessors, had not relented in his pounding of the Confederates. The armies clashed in the Wilderness and at Spotsylvania Courthouse and along the North Anna River. Whenever combat failed to break the Co

Synopsis Ten Days Without by : Daniel Ryan Day
A Rebellion against Apathy. A Strategy for Action. “Life is full of good intentions, but for too many, our good intentions never become good actions—they don’t move us forward, draw us closer to God, or make a difference in the world. Good intentions are cans of paint that could have become amazing works of art…but never did.” —Daniel Day, in Ten Days Without Daniel Day could tell you all about his love for God and his desire to live as a follower of Jesus. But it took a simple but radical experiment to move from simply talking about it to actually living like it. For ten days at a time, Daniel chose to abandon a certain “necessity”—a coat, a voice, shoes, media, furniture, legs, touch—and to blog about it to raise funds and awareness for organizations that are doing amazing things to make a difference in the world. And then he invited others to join him in the experiments and spread the vision. Together they served God and others—and experienced significant personal change in the process. Ten Days Without is the story of their life-altering adventure. Ten Days Without is a compelling story and practical guide that will equip you and your friends to break through walls of convenience and indifference, and join a movement that is confronting apathy and ignorance around the world to make an impact on people’s lives in a God-honoring way. Ten Days Without is where our good intentions end and making a difference in the world begins.

Synopsis 2012 Hurricane by : Arnaldo Ricciulli
On 2012, Daniel Mayhew, a brilliant weather researcher, works with Kelly Delaney, totally dedicated to protecting the environment, to build Sub-Zero, a hurricane suppression system. When Kelly's theories about a category 6 hurricane are proven true, Sub-Zero is pressed into service. Unknown to either of them, General Stefano Lowe, part of a shadowy group known as the "Lucky Thirteen," is out to stop them. As Daniel and Kelly fight to disperse the storm, Kelly's family asks her to come home. They're convinced the world is entering the "End of Times." Meanwhile, Daniel's father, ignoring the signs of a storm approaching, goes sailing. General Stefano Lowe is electrocuted trying to sabotage the system, and the Sub-Zero system successfully disperses the storm. Later, Daniel's father is found-alive! Taking him to the hospital, Kelly and Daniel realize that they have a future together-even as another storm starts to build. Book Review: What would you do to prevent death and destruction from a huge storm or hurricane? Imagine being able to create a system that could dissipate a storm and make sure it never reached hurricane force. Daniel Mayhew invented something called Sub-Zero that could do just that. He presented it to the National Hurricane Center and it was approved by most of the members. But, there is a group called the Lucky 13 that would not relish its success and will do anything to discredit him and make sure the project never gets off the ground. Daniel finds hurricanes exciting, exhilarating even though he understands their dangers. Creating the Sub-Zero, which could prevent the loss of property, lives and destruction would save billions of dollars to anywhere these hurricanes or devastating storms hit. Kelly Delaney, who also works for the Hurricane Center, understands the threat to global warming and develops her own theory and presents it. She is concerned that category 6 hurricane storms will eventually be a thing of the present and suggests that the government buy up all of the coastal land and allow it to return to nature. However, both plans are unpopular and without government support there would be little chance either would be successful. When Daniel is successful in getting the government to fund his program the group called the Lucky 13 has to find to away to discredit him and the program too. As these unscrupulous people convince Daniel's father that he stole his money for his own purposes and not for what it was intended and then falsified papers making it seem that the project was over budget, it appeared the end had finally come even before this project could be implemented. Daniel is a weather researcher with many wild ideas about stopping hurricanes before they make landfall. Kelly's predictions about category 6 storms are related to deaf ears. But, what would happen if a storm of this magnitude was brewing and no one did anything to prepare for it or believed it was going to happen? Well, you would have a group of wealthy men whose only goal is to make money off of the destruction, deaths and devastation caused by these storms. The more damage, the deaths, the more destruction the more money their construction and oil companies would make during the reconstruction process. Arnaldo Ricculli takes the reader on a dangerous ride through many storms and one impending storm that could destroy the world. A book about global warming, a topic that is relevant and important. Caring about the environment is important and Daniel and Kelly team up to stop the storm and teach the children of the state of Florida about hurricane safety in a well -crafted program they both create in order to teach children how dangerous hurricanes can be. Will Daniel ever get to implement his project? Will it work to decrease the density, volume and size of this catastrophic storm? How will this change Daniel's fathers poor perception of him and Kelly's about her. As the sixth storm called Fina

Synopsis Light Boxes by : Shane Jones
A poignant and fantastical first novel by a timeless new literary voice. With all the elements of a classic fable, vivid descriptions, and a wholly unique style, this idiosyncratic debut introduces a new and exciting voice to readers of such authors as George Saunders, Kurt Vonnegut, and Yann Martel. In Light Boxes, the inhabitants of one closely-knit town are experiencing perpetual February. It turns out that a god-like spirit who lives in the sky, named February, is punishing the town for flying, and bans flight of all kind, including hot air balloons and even children's kites. It's February who makes the sun nothing but a faint memory, who blankets the ground with snow, who freezes the rivers and the lakes. As endless February continues, children go missing and more and more adults become nearly catatonic with depression. But others find the strength to fight back, waging war on February.

Synopsis The Underneath by : Melanie Finn
With the assurance and grace of her acclaimed novel The Gloaming—which earned her comparisons to Patricia Highsmith—Melanie Finn returns with a precisely layered and tense new literary thriller. The Underneath follows Kay Ward, a former journalist struggling with the constraints of motherhood. Along with her husband and two children, she rents a quaint Vermont farmhouse for the summer. The idea is to disconnect from their work-based lifestyle—that had her doggedly pursuing a genocidal leader of child soldiers known as General Christmas, even through Kay's pregnancy and the birth of their second child—in an effort to repair their shaky marriage. It isn't long before Kay's husband is called away and she discovers a mysterious crawlspace in the rental with unsettling writing etched into the wall. Alongside some of the house's other curiosities and local sleuthing, Kay is led to believe that something terrible may have happened to the home's owners. Kay's investigation leads her to a local logger, Ben Comeau, a man beset with his own complicated and violent past. A product of the foster system and life-long resident of the Northeast Kingdom, Ben struggles to overcome his situation, and to help an abused child whose addict mother is too incapacitated to care about the boy's plight. The Underneath is an intelligent and considerate exploration of violence—both personal and social—and whether violence may ever be justified. The Adroit Journal: "How I Wrote The Underneath" (Oct. 29, 2018) Read Melanie Finn's essay about how the novel The Underneath came to be written.
