This volume treats various facets of the dark matter problem. Its themes include astronomical data (galaxy rotation curves, dynamics of galaxy clusters, microlensing of stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud), particle physics (nonbaryonic dark matter, neutrinos) and computer simulation of the evolution of large-scale structure in the universe. Solar neutrinos and prospects for their detection through underground experiments are also discussed. The book will provide a useful reference for all those interested in astroparticle physics.

These proceedings will contain both general reviews on particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology and detailed discussions on some specific topics. Particular emphasis is put on: (i) physics and instrumentation in solar neutrino experiments (Chlorine, SAGE, GALLEX, SNO, Borexino, Iodine); (ii) present status and prospects of underwater and Antarctic experiments (Baikal, DUMAND, AMANDA, Nestor/SADCO, NEVOD); (iii) cosmic rays and cosmic ray neutrinos (high energy muons underground, atmospheric neutrinos, supernovae neutrinos); (iv) experiments on neutrino masses and mixings; (v) searches for dark matter and double beta decay.

This workshop held in Valencia, following the earlier meetings organized at UIMP in 1991 and 1993 was open to all who wished to attend and addressed the basic issues in elementary particle physics research for the coming decade, with emphasis on the new physics topics pertaining to the electroweak sector, supersymmetry and neutrino physics, as well as the related experimentation at the new CERN accelerators LEP200 and LHC. Although it is expected that most attendees are working in the field, some time are devoted to reviews of basic results. The topics covered are the standard model, top and higgs physics, neutrino physics, astroparticle physics, physics beyond the standard model, grand unification and supersymmetry, physics at LEP200 and LHC, future perspectives.

The proceedings contain the lectures and contributions given at the workshop on double-beta decay and related topics, which was held at the ETC∗ (European Centre for Theoretical Studies), Trento, Italy, between April 24 and May 5, 1995.Double-beta decay is of prominent actuality nowadays. With the largely increased actuality of neutrino physics by recent observations and discussions of solar and atmospheric neutrino deficits, dark matter physics and neutrino oscillations and recent corresponding development in Grand Unified Theories, double-beta decay has attained a key position within these problems. The lectures of this Workshop treat the theoretical and experimental status, potential and perspectives of double-beta decay research and the intimate interrelations with the above mentioned and other topics from the view of particle, nuclear and astrophysics.

Particular emphasis is given to SM tests in high precision Z° physics and high energy hadron collider physics.
