Synopsis Advances in Transport Processes by : A.S. Mujumdar
The subject matter covered in this volume covers a wide scope. It contains critical reviews in many frontier areas of interest to engineers and applied scientists. Multiphase transport ranging from floc breakage to flow through multiphase media is discussed. Difficult problems of bubble growth and devolatilisation from polymeric melts are treated. The question of solid-liquid phase change with flow is considered and the emerging quantitation of web drying technology through mathematical modeling is covered. Transport phenomena in high-tech materials ranging from zeolite catalysts to liquid crystalline materials are covered and formidable problems of transport of gases in porous media, which have implications in many different technologies, are also addressed. Finally, applications of newer techniques in numerical computation of transport processes are highlighted. These authorative, evaluative and timely reviews of topics of current and potential interest will serve the needs of practising engineers as well as academic and industrial researchers.

Synopsis Advanced Transport Phenomena by : L. Gary Leal
Advanced Transport Phenomena is ideal as a graduate textbook. It contains a detailed discussion of modern analytic methods for the solution of fluid mechanics and heat and mass transfer problems, focusing on approximations based on scaling and asymptotic methods, beginning with the derivation of basic equations and boundary conditions and concluding with linear stability theory. Also covered are unidirectional flows, lubrication and thin-film theory, creeping flows, boundary layer theory, and convective heat and mass transport at high and low Reynolds numbers. The emphasis is on basic physics, scaling and nondimensionalization, and approximations that can be used to obtain solutions that are due either to geometric simplifications, or large or small values of dimensionless parameters. The author emphasizes setting up problems and extracting as much information as possible short of obtaining detailed solutions of differential equations. The book also focuses on the solutions of representative problems. This reflects the book's goal of teaching readers to think about the solution of transport problems.

Synopsis Convective Heat Transfer by : I. Pop
Interest in studying the phenomena of convective heat and mass transfer between an ambient fluid and a body which is immersed in it stems both from fundamental considerations, such as the development of better insights into the nature of the underlying physical processes which take place, and from practical considerations, such as the fact that these idealised configurations serve as a launching pad formodelling the analogous transfer processes in more realistic physical systems. Such idealised geometries also provide a test ground for checking the validity of theoreticalanalyses. Consequently, an immense research effort has been expended in exploring and understanding the convective heat and mass transfer processes between a fluid and submerged objects of various shapes. Among several geometries which have received considerable attention are plates, circular and elliptical cylinders, and spheres, although much information is also available for some other bodies, such ascorrugated surfaces or bodies of relatively complicated shapes. The book is a unified progress report which captures the spirit of the work in progress in boundary-layer heat transfer research and also identifies potential difficulties and areas for further study. In addition, this work provides new material on convective heat and mass transfer, as well as a fresh look at basic methods in heat transfer. Extensive references are included in order to stimulate further studies of the problems considered. A state-of-the-art picture of boundary-layer heat transfer today is presented by listing and commenting also upon the most recent successful efforts and identifying the needs for further research.

Synopsis Advanced Materials Processing and Manufacturing by : Yogesh Jaluria
This book focuses on advanced processing of new and emerging materials, and advanced manufacturing systems based on thermal transport and fluid flow. It examines recent areas of considerable growth in new and emerging manufacturing techniques and materials, such as fiber optics, manufacture of electronic components, polymeric and composite materials, alloys, microscale components, and new devices and applications. The book includes analysis, mathematical modeling, numerical simulation and experimental study of processes for prediction, design and optimization. It discusses the link between the characteristics of the final product and the basic transport mechanisms and provides a foundation for the study of a wide range of manufacturing processes. Focuses on new and advanced methods of manufacturing and materials processing with traditional methods described in light of the new approaches; Maximizes reader understanding of the fundamentals of how materials change, what transport processes are involved, and how these can be simulated and optimized - concepts not covered elsewhere; Introduces new materials and applications in manufacturing and summarizes traditional processing methods, such as heat treatment, extrusion, casting, injection molding, and bonding, to show how they have evolved and how they could be used for meeting the challenges that we face today.
