This is the story of the British Army's endeavours during the Great War to deceive the enemy and trick him into weakening his defences and redeploying his reserves. In this year-by-year account, Martin Davies shows how Sir John French and Sir Douglas Haig actively encouraged their Army commanders to employ trickery so that all attacks should come as a 'complete surprise' to the enemy. The methods of concealment of real military artefacts and the creation of dummy ones were ingenious enough but the real art lay in the development of geographically dispersed deception plans which disguised the real time and place of attack and forced the enemy to defend areas threatened by fake operations. Some of these plans, such as disguising mules as tanks and creating dummy airfields bordered on the farcical but were often amazingly effective. The driving force behind the deception plans was GHQ and the Army commanders, further dispelling the myth of 'Lions led by Donkeys'. Evidence shows that the British Army employed deception to advantage in all their theatres of operation.

Between May and October 1940, following Hitler's invasion of western Europe and the evacuation of the Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk, it was feared that the Germans would invade Britain. Over a million men volunteered for the Home Guard, beaches were covered with barbed wire, and pillboxes were scattered across the countryside. But even amid this frenzy of preparation, many Britons were indifferent to the perceived threat. In Don't Panic: Britain Prepares for Invasion, 1940, Mark Rowe presents the definitive account of Britain's 'finest hour'. Using diaries, official documents and many previously unpublished photographs, he recounts the history of the invasion that never was, including how Churchill interfered with the defence of Whitehall, the many false alarms such as the 'Battle of Bewdley', and the general who boasted his orders were 'grandiloquent bollocks'. Moreover, it shows how the people of Britain sought to defend their island against a truly formidable enemy, and how their preparations arguably prevented the invasion from ever taking place.

In the spring of 1917 the Arras offensive was begun to break the stalemate of the Western Front by piercing the formidable German defences of the Hindenburg Line. The village of Bullecourt lay at the southern end of the battle front, and the fighting there over a period of six weeks from 11 April until late May 1917, epitomised the awful trench warfare of World War I. In Bullecourt 1917, Paul Kendall tells the stories of the fierce battles fought by three British and three Australian divisions in an attempt to aid Allenby’s Third Army break out from Arras. Approximately 10,000 Australian and 7,000 British soldiers died, many of whom were listed as missing and have no known grave. The battle caused much consternation due to the failure of British tanks in supporting Australian infantry on 11 April, but despite the lack of tank and artillery support the Australian infantry valiantly fought their way into the German trenches. It took a further six weeks for British and Australian infantry to capture the village. This book tells the story of this bitter battle and pays tribute to the men who took part. Crucially, Paul Kendall has contacted as many of the surviving relatives of the combatants as he could, to gain new insight into those terrible events on the Hindenburg Line.

If they will do this, how can we the public, trust them with our drinking water?? 100% transparency is required! I've inscribed these pages after a number of alarming experiences dating back to the mid-1960s through present day. Imagine, all three levels of government have been and are allowing the ongoing concealment of a deeply massive hazardous illegal dumpsite. This site created by a dominant municipality, whose authoritative power extends throughout the entire Southeastern section of the USA. From 1960s through 2000, this city's illegal trespassed entirely upon private properties of low-income blacks who lived adjacent the notorious all-black Perry Homes Housing Project. This city disposed more than three hundred thousand cubic yards of hazardous waste there. To make matters worse, the city zealously concealed and deceived every effort to expose their illegal activities for more than two decades to present day. My efforts and litigation's have been relentlessly thwarted for years, due to the city's predominant goal to obtain the last parcel of land they disposed waste thereon, which unfortunately I still own. The City of Atlanta's law department and Public Works department deceptive method of condemning only my four properties has left me no other choice but to write this book. Public safety and health concerns have yet to be considered by any government, concerning this illegal dumpsite, consistently releases contamination into the air and directly into state and national waterways. My eight years of investigations reveal extensive ongoing damage to the public and environment. The publication of these facts will give insight into the evidence that our government doesn't want revealed. Ultimately, there is no such law on the books that address a rogue government agency; therefore, we as citizens in the USA, are left helpless to concealment consequences of a never-ending contamination source affecting a minimum of three states and the Gulf of Mexico.
