Synopsis Creating the New Egyptian Woman by : M. Russell
A "New Woman" was announced in Egypt at the turn of the nineteenth century. With a new genre of prescriptive literature, new products, a new education, and a physically changed home, she increasingly emerged in public life. This book discusses and debates the place of Egyptian women, while focusing on consumerism and education. Russell sheds much-needed light on the struggle for identity in Egypt at a time of considerable flux and tension and provides a powerful angle to explore changing concepts of social dynamics and broader debates of what it meant to be "modern" while retaining local authenticity.

Synopsis The Search for Beauty in Islam by : Khaled Abou El Fadl
Khaled Abou El Fadl is a classically-trained Islamic jurist, an American lawyer and law professor, and one of the most important Islamic thinkers today. In this updated and expanded edition of The Search for Beauty in Islam, Abou El Fadl offers eye-opening and enlightening insights into the contemporary realities of the current state of Islam and the West. Through a "conference of the books," an imagined conference of Muslim intellects from centuries past, Abou El Fadl examines the ugliness that has come to plague Muslim realities and attempts to reclaim what he maintains is a core moral value in Islam-the value of beauty. Does Islamic law allow, or even call for, the gruesome acts of ugliness that have become so commonly associated with Islam today? Has Islam become a religion devoid of beauty, compassion and love? Based on actual cases, this book tackles different issues and problems in each chapter through a post-9/11 lens, discussing such topics as marriage, divorce, parental rights, the position of women, the veil, sexual abuse, wife-beating, terrorism, bigotry, morality, law, and the role of tradition. Abou El Fadl argues that the rekindling of the forgotten value of beauty is essential for Muslims today to take back what has been lost to the fundamentalist forces that have denigrated their religion.

Synopsis The Path to Paradise by : Fatima Zahra Sandra Qazamel
Islam is a religion of justice, peace, mercy and forgiveness. Muslims believe in the ONE TRUE GOD (ALLAH) and follow the SUNNAH (teachings) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the QURAN (the last holy book) which was sent down to the Prophet Muhammad (who was unlettered) from ALLAH through the Archangel Gabriel. It was recorded and memorized by many at that time and is still memorized by thousands of Muslims all over the world today. The Holy Quran has remained unchanged, even to a dot, over the past fourteen hundred years. One of the hallmarks of Islam is its complete harmony with science. There has never been a scientific fact or a valid scientific theory that contradicted the teachings of Islam. It deals with every subject morality, knowledge, science, law, systems of social justice, politics, economics and directions for every sphere of life. It is a book of wisdom and guidance through which Allah, (Most Gracious and Most High) speaks to humanity. The Quran was completed during the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) yet contains profound knowledge of science and medicine that was centuries ahead of its time.

Synopsis Contemporary Approaches to the Qur'an and Sunnah by : Mahmoud Ayoub
The Qur’an and Sunnah are the two primary sources of Muslim faith, life, law and morality. The Qur’an is for Muslims the foundation of their faith and the Sunnah is the framework of their morality. Together they constitute the two sources of the law (Shari’ah) of God, a guide to prosperity and happiness in this life and to the bliss of the hereafter. Although the Qur’an and Sunnah are materially and formally two independent sources, they are inextricably bound in a dynamic relationship. The rulings and precepts (ahkam) of the Qur’an constitute the law (shar’) of God. They are supplemented by the precepts of the authentic Sunnah, which possess authority second only to the precepts of the Qur’an. The Qur’an commands Muslims, “Whatever the Messenger gives you, that you must take, and whatever he forbids you, you must desist therefrom....” (59:7).
