Synopsis Cesky Terrier by : Katherine A. Eckstrom

Devised by Dr. Frantisek Horak, a top-ranked geneticist from the Czech Republic, the Cesky Terrier is one dog world's best kept secrets and one of the few terrier breeds that did not derive from the British Islands. This modern creation is a rare combination of beauty and ability, a "small, slim and elegant" terrier that is a true go-to-ground working dog. Originally devised from crosses of the Scottish and Sealyham Terriers, today's Cesky Terrier is a purebred dog through and through, recognized by the American Kennel Club and all of the world's major registries. The author, Katherine Eckstrom is the heiress apparent of Dr. Horak, having cooperated with the famous geneticist before his death and continuing to breed his dream dogs from his original line of Czech dogs. Mrs. Eckstrom is the world authority of the Cesky Terrier, an American breeder who is highly respected in the Czech Republic and around the world. This offers a comprehensive history of the Cesky Terrier, from the creation of the breed in Europe to its rise in today's world of purebred dogs. In discussing the breed's characteristics, the author presents an interview with Dr. Horak, thus providing the most authoritative account of the breed's desirable physical traits and personality and an explanation of the breed standard New owners will welcome the well-prepared chapter on finding a breeder and selecting a health, sound puppy. Chapters on puppy-proofing the home and yard, purchasing the right supplies for the puppy as well as house-training, feeding, and grooming are illustrated with handsome adults and puppies bursting with energy and personality! In all, there are over 135 photographs in this compact, useful, and reliable volume. The author’s advice on obedience training the Cesky Terrier will help readers better mold and train their dogs into the most socialized, well-mannered purebred dog in the neighborhood. The extensive chapter on healthcare provides detailed information on selecting a qualified veterinarian, vaccinations, parasites, infectious diseases, and more. Sidebars throughout the text offer helpful hints, covering topics as diverse as toxic plants, bloat, first aid, crate training, carsickness, fussy eaters, and parasite control. Fully indexed.

Synopsis Cesky Terrier Dog by : Jordan Thiago

Small terrier dogs of a Czech heritage include the Cesky Terrier, commonly known as the Czech Terrier. This breed is noted for its unusual appearance and pleasant, intelligent disposition. Some facts and qualities regarding the Cesky Terrier are as follows: 1. Cesky Terriers have a long, silky coat and a compact, well-muscled frame. They feature thick, bushy eyebrows, a short beard, and a wiry, slightly wavy coat that is normally gray but can have tan or yellow tints. 2. Cesky Terriers have a reputation for having a kind personality and a sharp mind. In general, they are kind toward parents and young children. Despite being a terrier, they are typically friendlier and gentler than other terrier types. 3. Trainability: Cesky Terriers are rapid learners and react well to positive reinforcement training. Due to their high intellect and trainability, they are frequently utilized in canine activities and competitions. 4. Similarly to other terrier breeds, Cesky Terriers benefit greatly from daily walks or runs. They need daily walks and recreation to keep their bodies and minds active. 5. Regular maintenance is necessary to keep their one-of-a-kind coat from matting and tangling. It may be necessary to brush your hair frequently and get it professionally groomed occasionally. 6. Cesky Terriers, like dogs of all breeds, tend to be in good condition. However, some health problems have been associated with the breed. To protect their health, it is essential to find a reliable breeder and to take them for frequent checkups. Outside of the Czech Republic, Cesky Terriers are uncommon, yet they make lovely pets for people who recognize their unusual appearance and warm disposition. Do your homework and find a reputable breeder if you want to bring a Cesky Terrier into your house, or look into adopting a dog from a shelte

Synopsis Medical, Genetic and Behavioral Risk Factors of the Terrier Breeds by : Ross D. Clark DVM

This book (Terrier Group) provides you with the thorough descriptions and positive attributes of these breeds, including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors, and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known, predisposed hereditary health syndromes for these breeds. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for these breeds and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small-animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life, and I am further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed, with aerodynamic bodies consisting of a small head, deep chest, narrow waist, and large leg muscles. On the other hand, dachshunds take their name from German words meaning badger dog, and they use their long nose, long body, and short legs to both track, enter, and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspiration for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically, references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various veterinary medical texts and journals, such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular, and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, has been researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposed information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club, Canine Health Foundation, and the Kennel Club of England report over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. During the writing of my first book in 1983, less than fifty hereditary issues were able to be predicted or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome; DNA tests; metabolic testing, including blood tests and urine testing; and phenotypic examinations, such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified veterinary ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed-related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners, and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.
