Synopsis The Paper Boomerang Book by : Mark Latno
When it comes to lightweight avionics, there's no beating a paper boomerang. Let all the others chase after their dull folded airplanes--you can now build a flying device that comes right back to you, every time! And unlike expensive, heavy wooden boomerangs, you won't endanger windows and skulls with paper boomerangs. The Paper Boomerang Book is the first-of-its-kind guide to this fascinating toy. Expert Mark Latno not only tells you how to build, perfect, and troubleshoot your paper boomerang, but about the 20,000-year history of the device, including Egyptian throwing sticks found in pharaoh's tombs, and the physics behind their circuitous flights. And once you've mastered the basic throw, return, and catch, it's on to more impressive tricks--the Behind-the-Back Toss, the Boomerang Juggle, the Under-the-Leg Catch, and the dreaded Double-Handed, Backward, Double-Boomerang Throw. For those who don't have the luxury of the wide-open outback on a clear Australian day, author Latno includes plans for Little Dragons, miniature versions of the paper boomerang that can be used indoors in almost any sized room, rain or shine.

Synopsis Boomerang by : Tyler Smith
If there was a guest follow-up system being used by over 17,000 church leaders, would you be intrigued? If church leaders were seeing first-time guest attendance and guest retention far surpassing the national average, would you want to know what they're doing? If there was a 3-step framework for building a guest follow-up system that creates more connection among members and guests and frees up more time among church staff and volunteers, would you give it a try?Spoiler alert: there is.Boomerang is the key to successful and sustainable church guest follow-up. Here's what you will find in Boomerang:*The proven 3-step framework of gather, connect, build*The actual follow up messages and strategies used by thousands of churches all across the country that are seeing incredible growth*The process of building a follow-up system that will work for you, freeing up more of your time to do what got you into ministry in the first placeBoomerang isn't like any other church growth book. There are no theories or hypotheticals. It is packed full of practical, proven, and strategic steps your church can start implementing right away.

Synopsis Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World by : Michael Lewis
“Lewis shows again why he is the leading journalist of his generation.”—Kyle Smith, Forbes The tsunami of cheap credit that rolled across the planet between 2002 and 2008 was more than a simple financial phenomenon: it was temptation, offering entire societies the chance to reveal aspects of their characters they could not normally afford to indulge. Icelanders wanted to stop fishing and become investment bankers. The Greeks wanted to turn their country into a pinata stuffed with cash and allow as many citizens as possible to take a whack at it. The Germans wanted to be even more German; the Irish wanted to stop being Irish. Michael Lewis's investigation of bubbles beyond our shores is so brilliantly, sadly hilarious that it leads the American reader to a comfortable complacency: oh, those foolish foreigners. But when he turns a merciless eye on California and Washington, DC, we see that the narrative is a trap baited with humor, and we understand the reckoning that awaits the greatest and greediest of debtor nations.

Synopsis Boomerangs by : Jenny Fretland VanVoorst
In Boomerangs, early fluent readers explore the physics behind this flying toy. Vibrant, full-color photos and carefully leveled text engage young readers as they explore how a straight throw can make a boomerang fly a curved path. An infographic explains a boomerang's flight path, and an activity offers kids an opportunity to extend discovery. Children can learn more about boomerangs using our safe search engine that provides relevant, age-appropriate websites. Boomerangs also features reading tips for teachers and parents, a table of contents, a glossary, and an index. Boomerangs is part of Jump!'s Early Physics Fun series.

Synopsis Spinning Flight by : Ralph D. Lorenz
More frisbees are sold each year than baseballs, basketballs and footballs combined. Yet these familiar flying objects have subtle and clever aerodynamic and gyrodynamic properties which are only recently being documented by wind tunnel and other studies. In common with other rotating bodies discussed in this readily accessible book, they are typically not treated in textbooks of aeronautics and the literature is scattered in a variety of places. This book develops the theme of disc-wings and spinning aerospace vehicles in parallel. Since many of the examples are recreational, anyone who enjoys these activities will likely find it profitable and enjoyable. In addition to spinning objects of various shapes, several exotic manned aircraft with disc planforms have been proposed and a prototypes built – these include a Nazi ‘secret weapon’ and the De Havilland Avrocar, also discussed in the book. Boomerangs represent another category of spinning aerodynamic body whose behavior can only be understood by coupling aerodynamics with gyrodynamics. The narrative, supported by equations and graphs, explains how the shape and throw of a boomerang relates to its trajectory. The natural world presents still other examples, namely the samaras or ‘seed-wings’ of many tree species, which autorotate during their descent, like a helicopter whose engine has failed. The flight performance of these spinning wings directly affects the dispersal and thus the evolutionary competitiveness of the trees concerned. Samara-type configurations are also considered for instrumentation and other payload dispersal applications. In short, the book discusses a range of familiar, connected, but largely undeveloped, topics in an accessible, but complete, manner. From the reviews of the first edition: "In his fascinating book Spinning Flight, Ralph Lorenz provides a rich feast of ... examples of spinning bodies ... . The book is well organized ... . The discussion in the book ... should be accessible to readers with some elementary understanding of aerodynamic principles. For the expert, the book is full of open problems ... . Its scope is extensive ... . In this respect, there may be something for everyone within its attractively designed cover ... ." (H. K. Moffatt, Nature, Vol. 444, December, 2006) "If you liked physics at school, then this book is for you. It concerns itself with flying objects that spin through the air, and even tells you how to impress your friends with the biomechanics of Frisbees. ... there is plenty of information at all levels, and the book has a wealth of detail that only an aerospace engineer like Lorenz could have come up with." (Len Fisher, BBC Focus, February, 2007)

Synopsis Boomerang Kids by : Carl Pickhardt
"She's 22 years old, for heaven's sake! We thought she'd be grown up by now. But no, it's one more crisis after another. And then she calls on us—for emotional support, problem-solving advice. Even money...although we've gotten pretty tough about that. It's like she's still a teen! Why is it so hard for her just to act like an adult?" Around age 18, most young people expect, and are expected to, move out and live on their own—either at college or in an apartment. But more and more often, "boomerang kids" are returning home defeated, leaving you frustrated and at a loss for how to help them. In this breakthrough book, Carl Pickhardt, author of Why Good Kids Act Cruel, exposes the hidden period of development that's causing increasing numbers of post-high school and college age kids to fail on their own and tells parents what you can do to fix it. His new approach to understanding young adulthood proposes that 18–to–23 year-olds have reached not adulthood, but a final stage of adolescence called "trial independence." Boomerang Kids helps parents understand this little-discussed period in your children's lives, so you can help them get through this last and most difficult stage of adolescence and get back out on their own, to become fully, and successfully, independent adults.
