Synopsis Blood Behind the Smile by : Charles Coley

Blood Behind the Smile is a fictional account of a supposed decimated Philadelphia African American crime group called the Black Mafia. The men who resurrect this "evil" have walked a Pennsylvania state penitentiary red-clay yard for ten years, planning the return to the top of the organization. Two of the Black Mafia's cofounders have given this responsibility to a particularly nasty piece of work, who they dimly refer to as their Blood Prince—formally known as Frank "Dry Ice" Hall. Dry Ice has learned the Machiavellian tactics of leadership from his mentor Paul "Sir Willie" Reed, one of the Black Mafia's most astute thinkers and feared leaders. Blood Behind the Smile is not your ordinary urban novel. It has it all—love, betrayal, death, family, and misdirection. This story is told over a three-book series: Blood Behind the Smile (Book One), Blood Behind the Smile (The Boatman On the River), and Blood Behind the Smile (The Brotherhood).

Synopsis Beyond the Smile by : Chris Scott

This book is a result of 12 amazing women who accepted the challenge and made a decision to allow the World to take a peek "Beyond the Smile" they wear so well. Several months ago, The Holy Spirit gave me the title of this book. I took time and wrote down ten titles to include "Beyond the Smile", but wanted to give the co-authors an opportunity to help select the right one. Although I knew what God had already spoken, I sent them all ten titles and ask that they each select the three top choices. God had spoken again as the top choice was "Beyond the Smile", after the second round of voting. Let's go a little deeper on the choice in naming the book. The women in this compilation of amazing stories tell their truths of smiling while hurting and wounded. I sometimes call it "serving while hemorrhaging." Many women can relate to living their daily lives while much is going on within, but yet they smile. There are many times that we endure betrayal, negativity, and fear, yet we still smile. Most of the times, those closest to us don't even know what is going on within the depths of our souls. These women of strong FAITH, who I affectionately call Queens, have emptied themselves onto paper and has discovered the therapeutic necessity of telling their truth to bless other women. The launching of this book was as though we each released a thousand doves. It is a symbolization of freedom and self-awakening. God created for us, a sister circle of support for one another that will live forever. We each found strength and confidence in prayer and the love that has been displayed birthed victory in abundance. Sit back, grab you warm throw blanket and a glass of your favorite drink as we go "Beyond the Smile" of my co-authors Ashley Brittney, Consuelo Allen, Detral Williams, Kenyatta Collins, LaQuanda Plantt, Mia Colemon, Michelle Hudson, Renata Triblett, Sharon P. Jones, Zen Watson, Tonya Clinton, and Ynwanda S. Market.

Synopsis Behind the Dolphin Smile by : Richard O'Barry

People who have faced death often speak of their lives flashing before their lives. Something much different happened to dolphin trainer Richard O'Barry when one of the dolphins that played Flipper on television died of stress in his arms. He realized that most of his career as an animal trainer had been a mistake and that dolphins have as much right to freedom as humans. He vowed not to rest until he freed every last dolphin that could be returned to the wild successfully. This is a true story that will move not only animal lovers but everyone who loves a well-told tale. Ric O'Barry had everything-money, flashy cars, pretty women-but it wasn't enough to keep his conscience at bay. He began to understand that dolphins were easy to train because of their great intelligence, not his great talent, and keeping them in captivity was cruel and morally wrong. While research and entertainment are important to human life, they are not worth the cost to these beautiful and gentle animals. O'Barry was arrested trying to free a dolphin, but that didn't stop him, and he now devotes his life to untraining dolphins and returning them to their natural habitats. Once the pride of the billion-dollar dolphin captivity industry, he has since become its nemesis.

Synopsis The Importance of Not Being Earnest by : Wallace Chafe

The thesis of this book is that neither laughter nor humor can be understood apart from the feeling that underlies them. This feeling is a mental state in which people exclude some situation from their knowledge of how the world really is, thereby inhibiting seriousness where seriousness would be counterproductive. Laughter is viewed as an expression of this feeling, and humor as a set of devices designed to trigger it because it is so pleasant and distracting. Beginning with phonetic analyses of laughter, the book examines ways in which the feeling behind the laughter is elicited by both humorous and nonhumorous situations. It discusses properties of this feeling that justify its inclusion in the repertoire of human emotions. Against this background it illustrates the creation of humor in several folklore genres and across several cultures. Finally, it reconciles this understanding with various already familiar ways of explaining humor and laughter.
