Synopsis Big Dark Hole by : Jeffrey Ford
World Fantasy Award finalist It sounds innocuous. The routine world of college teaching. Quiet evenings on a porch with your wife. And then . . . maybe it’s an unexpected light in a dark and uninhabited house, maybe it’s a drainage tunnel that some poor kid is suddenly compelled to explore. Maybe there’s a monkey in the woods or an angel that you’ll need to fight if you want to gain tenure. Jeffrey Ford's stunning new collection Big Dark Hole is about those big, dark holes that we find ourselves once in a while and maybe, too, the big dark holes that exist inside of us.

Synopsis The Battle of Big Hole: A History of General Gibbon's Engagement with Nez Percés Indians in the Big Hole Valley, Montana, August 9th, 1877 (Annotated) by : G.O. Shields
The Battle of the Big Hole was fought in west-central Montana on August 9–10, 1877, between the U.S. Army and the Nez Perce tribe led by legendary Chief Joseph. Temporarily capturing the village, the army was pushed back during a warrior counterattack, while the Native American non-combatants fled. Led by Civil War veteran, Colonel John Gibbon (a major figure at Gettysburg), the army suffered heavy casualties, as did the Nez Perce. The tribe would escape to make its way toward Canada but was pursued by the military until they surrendered. This is the story of the battle as it was fought by the troopers. At the time this book was written in 1892, John Gibbon and Chief Joseph had become friends and met at the old battlefield. Every memoir of the American West provides us with another view of the period that changed the country forever. For the first time, this long out-of-print volume is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers and smartphones. sure to LOOK INSIDE by clicking the cover above or download a sample.

Synopsis Montana's Last Best River by : Pat Munday
In 1878, the first complete dinosaur skeleton was discovered in a coal mine in Bernissart, Belgium. Iguanodon, first described by Gideon Mantell on the basis of fragments discovered in England in 1824, was initially reconstructed as an iguana-like reptile or a heavily built, horned quadruped. However, the Bernissart skeleton changed all that. The animal was displayed in an upright posture similar to a kangaroo, and later with its tail off the ground like the dinosaur we know of today. Focusing on the Bernissant discoveries, this book presents the latest research on Iguanodon and other denizens of the Cretaceous ecosystems of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Pascal Godefroit and contributors consider the Bernissart locality itself and the new research programs that are underway there. The book also presents a systematic revision of Iguanodon; new material from Spain, Romania, China, and Kazakhstan; studies of other Early Cretaceous terrestrial ecosystems; and examinations of Cretaceous vertebrate faunas.
