This is the story of one man ́s-Vinayak Damodar Savarkar ́s- sacrifice of his name, fame, comfort, and family life in the fifty years of his quest for the freedom of his beloved motherland, India. It is the story of politics and power plays. Exposed here is the reality that lies behind the mask of Truth; exposed are the shenanigans of Mahatma Gandhi in the Freedom Movement of India. The reality is a far cry from the rosy picture presented by what passes as history. Here, Savarkar ́s life is creatively intertwined with a fictional character, Keshav Wadkar, taking the reader from the horrors of the Cellular Jail in 1913 to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. Savarkar fought to preserve the integrity of India, to reinstate the honor of his motherland without ripping her heart out. For the emancipation of his beloved country and people, he suffered agonies and gross injustices at the hands of the British government, Gandhi-Nehru-led Indian National Congress, and the successive Governments of free India. That his contribution to India should be negated to bolster the political aspirations of any political party is unacceptable. The truth cannot-and shall not-be hidden!

This book revisits the aftermath of the partition of 1947, and the war of 1971, to examine some of the longer-term consequences of the redrawing of borders across South Asia. From the eastern frontier of Assam to the westernmost reaches of Gujarat and Sindh, the chapters in this volume study the “minority question” and show how it has manifested in different regional contexts. The authors ask how minorities have sought to belong, and trace how their sense of belonging has shifted with time. Working with “intercepted letters, pamphlets, and poetry”, novels and ethnographic fieldwork, each of these articles foreground the voices of the “refugee” and the “minority”. Taken together, the essays argue that a deep dive into how people have been affected by border-making and remaking in each of these frontier regions is integral to understanding the “big picture” that is South Asia. By drawing upon current research in history, memory studies and literature, this book will interest students, researchers and scholars of modern Indian history, Partition studies, colonial history, postcolonial studies, politics, and South Asian studies. The promulgation of the Government of India Act of 1935 not only reinforced the phenomenon of separate electorates on the basis of religion but led to a dramatic change in the nature of communalism in the Indian subcontinent.
