Carter. Fueled by American historical events from 1854-1884, The Dark Side of the Mountain follows the adventures of John Saxton and Marcus Brown, who fight as Union guerillas against the Confederacy and all it stands for. Major Horatio Garrow and his son, Lucas, are mad men full of hate and greed, dedicated to one cause - their own. Along with a supporting cast of unforgettable characters both real and imaginary, these men are caught up in a vicious web of murder, dark secrets, betrayal and intrigue where only survival matters. In Volume One: The Dark Side of the Mountain; a young John Saxton watches helplessly as brutal slavers throw human cargo overboard to avoid capture by the "Africa Patrol." From then on, the Boston shipping heir becomes an implacable abolitionist bent on destroying slavery in America. Confederate spies, traitors and the dreaded Deacon Gang are arrayed against him. Can Saxton and his beautiful black bride, Virginia, survive a dangerous game of espionage, treachery and betrayal that culminates in the "honeymoon from hell?" As the Civil War divides and devours a nation, a black American guerilla force is carried behind Confederate lines by a unique sinking ship. Led by a giant Maasai warrior, they fight a determined and deadly foe from the eastern seaboard of America to its vast western plains. Even as the horror of war explodes around them, the Maasai Rangers embrace a common dream deep within the heart of Dixie. In Volume Two: The Dark Side of the Mountain; John Saxton is captured and thrown into the horror of Salisbury prison. Pursued by Major Horatio Garrow and his hapless brute of a companion Harley Blackstone, can Saxton survive? From his father's grave, a vengeful Lucas Garrow is led on a torturous search for stolen treasure. But a love fueled by the "Cause" and poisoned by greed, leads to a deadly confrontation. With America facing total ruination by blackmail; a battle erupts between a drug-addicted Lucas Garrow allied with the Klan, a militant underground colony of religious zealots, and the forces of justice bent on self-destruction. It all comes to an explosive conclusion not only deep within the heart of the Ozarks, but on Elder Mountain, Tennessee, where a utopia called Harmony Farm faces a forest fire out of control. Could Saxton and Marcus survive in an alien world and still find another dream called 'home'?

Synopsis The Serpent Beguiled Eve by : Acacia Slaton
Synopsis: A young married woman with two daughters deals with her husband's infidelity and his struggle with homosexuality. She seeks spiritual counsel, but when he refuses to cooperate with spiritual leaders-other than on a surface level-she has to make the most important decision of her life. For the author: This book is well written. You obviously have a strong grasp of the English language and vocabulary. I see that you have previously written another book. This one, "The Serpent Beguiled Eve," always retains respect and reverence for the God of the Bible. And yet you have written about a difficult but contemporary issue..... You kept my interest by hinting that things were not to be or were going to get worse, and this bit of mystery led to turning the page to learn, "What happens next?" You do a good job presenting the spiritual truth that God is always with us, ever willing to forgive our sins and lukewarm living, and yet it is squarely on our shoulders to seek Him and to repent when necessary. I trust this is a book that will help others. We are presenting our "Faith-Friendly" Seal for ages 12 plus, and five Doves, our best rating, to this book." -Edwin L. Carpenter, The Dove Foundation, www.dove.org "This story gives readers a taste of the pain caused by infidelity (for the spouses and their children.) It also shows there is hope beyond the grief for those who put their faith in the promises of God. The Serpent Beguiled Eve is recommended reading for anyone who feels alone as they live through and recover from the pain of infidelity." -Kimberly Schimmel, Church Librarian "None of the people here can be blamed – not even her ex-husband David. Everybody in this book is a victim of circumstances beyond their control. Who am I or, who is anybody else to judge? Who among us is perfect? I can only say that I was fully caught up in Acacia's story, I empathize with her, and wish her and her kids – Madison and Mia - all the happiness and success in the world." -Raghav from Bangalore

Synopsis Understanding the Sexual Betrayal of Boys and Men by : Richard B. Gartner
Understanding the Sexual Betrayal of Boys and Men: The Trauma of Sexual Abuse is an indispensable go-to book for understanding male sexual victimization. It has become increasingly clear since the 1980s that men and boys, like women and girls, are sexually abused and assaulted in alarming numbers. Yet there have been few resources available to victims, their loved ones, or those trying to help them. Richard B. Gartner was in the vanguard of clinicians treating male sexual victimization and has written extensively about it, initially in professional papers, then in his landmark 1999 book for clinicians Betrayed as Boys: Psychodynamic Treatment of Sexually Abused Men, continuing with his 2005 work Beyond Betrayal: Taking Charge of Your Life after Boyhood Sexual Abuse. He has been a tireless teacher, clinician, and advocate for male victims of sexual abuse in the classroom, the lecture hall, and of course the consulting room as well as in newspaper, television, radio, and online interviews. Dr. Gartner has gathered together expert colleagues from the trauma, psychoanalytic, medical, and survivor treatment fields. Together, they have created a comprehensive guide to what was once thought to be a rarity but now is clearly an all-too-common occurrence. Understanding the Sexual Betrayal of Boys and Men looks at the realities of male sexual victimization, guiding clinicians and lay people alike to understand the complexities of the devastation it causes in victimized boys and men. It considers topics as diverse as: sexual assault in institutions like the military, sports teams, schools, universities, and religious organizations; sex trafficking of boys and adolescents; neurobiology and brain chemistry of male survivors of sexual abuse; gender and sexual dysfunctions and confusions resulting from sexual exploitation and trauma; physicians’ treatment of sexually abused men’s medical problems; socio-cultural influences on processing and treating men’s and boys’ sexual victimization. Understanding the Sexual Betrayal of Boys and Men is required reading for anyone working with male victims of sexual abuse and assault at any level – psychotherapists, rape counselors, attorneys, journalists, guidance counselors, physicians, clergy, graduate students, and lawmakers – and helpful to lay people interested in this often-unrecognized problem.

Synopsis The Betrayal of Liberal Economics by : Amos Witztum
The presumed sovereignty of individuals and the facilitating powers of the markets have generated a universal and ethically neutral conception of both social and economic organisation. This ground-breaking text re-examines the purpose of society and the role of economics in it, arguing that the absence of a beneficial natural order calls for the role of the collective in social and economic life to be revisited. Drawing on some key figures marking milestones in the evolution of social and economic thinking, the author offers a critique of mainstream economics as a way of thinking and as a provider of guiding principles for economic and social organisation. Volume I introduces the reader to the emergence of natural order; considers the internal logic of economics and how it managed to be so persuasive in its recommendation for competitive interactions to govern all aspects of social life in all societies and across them; demonstrates that the economic conception of an order which solves society’s economic problem is, in fact, an impossibility that turns the natural phenomenon of markets into a problem rather than an ideal; and, addresses the other apparent appeal of markets: their association with the ideas of freedom and justice. This is a bold and foundational new work that offers an original and innovative perspective on economics and its challenges, addressing core areas such as behavioural economics, evolutionary game theory and links between social sciences (anthropology, philosophy) and neurosciences.”

Synopsis The Signifier and the Signified by : F. Noske
The studies collected in this volume deal with the interpretation of opera. In most cases the results are based on structural analysis, a concept which may require some clarification in this context. During the past de cade 'structure' and 'structural' have become particularly fashionable terms lacking exact denotation and used for the most divergent purposes. As employed here, structural analysis is concerned with such concepts as 'relationship', 'coherence' and 'continuity', more or less in contrast to formal analysis which deals with measurable material. In other words, I have analysed the structure of an opera by seeking and examining factors in the musico-dramatic process, whereas analysts of form are generally preoccupied with the study of elements contained in the musical object. Though admittedly artificial, the dichotomy of form and structure may elucidate the present situation with regard to the study of opera. Today, nearly one hundred years after the death of Wagner, the proclaimed anti thesis of Oper und Drama is generally taken for what it really was: a means to propagate the philosophy of its inventor. The conception of opera (whether 'continuous' or composed of 'numbers') as a special form of drama is no longer contested. Nevertheless musical scholarship has failed to draw the consequences from this view and few scholars realize the need to study general theory of drama and more specifically the dramatic experience.
