Synopsis Behind and Beyond the Badge by : Donna Brown (Retired police officer)
There's so much more to a police officer's badge that all first responders wear. But that's what the world sees. What's behind and beyond that badge is what people need to know-the person. Those behind the badge may wear a different uniform, but they too have families and love their communities. Each one faces all that life has to offer.

Synopsis The Heart Behind the Badge by : Ron Shipp
What do you do when one of your friends is murdered? Not only murdered, but she was murdered by your other friend, (her ex husband) who also happened to be your childhood hero. This isn't just another book about OJ Simpson, it is the full story of a man who found himself in the middle of a dark tunnel that seemed to have no end. After years of guilt, lies, and betrayal, Ron battled back and forth whether or not to tell his story, in fear of losing his credibility. Twenty-two years later, he felt it was time for his story to be told. The Heart Behind the Badge is a memoir that outlines the life and events that led up to him testifying against one of his friends in what would be known as The Trial of the Century. Not one of his 15 years on the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) could have prepared him for what he was about to face.

Synopsis Behind the Blue Lights by : Mark E. Nickerson
In Mark Nickerson's second book, Behind the Blue Lights, in addition to his usual hilarious stories of life as a Maine State Trooper, Mark delves deeper into the reasons people become law enforcement officers, and offers some poignant insight into the difficulties of life behind the blue lights. It's not all fun and games being a cop, and in this book Mark shows us both the humor and heartbreak behind the badge. As an added bonus, Mark has included stories from the archives of the Maine State Police, some heartwarming stories from another Maine State Trooper and the son of a Howland police chief who explain how the Maine State Police made a big impression on their lives as children. You'll laugh out loud at the rendition offered by one of Mark's friends as she meets the "Nissen bread man" (aka Warden John Ford). Then, you might take pause when reading the story of "Patty and her Bicycle,"it's a stark look at the emotional side of police work when dealing with children and death notifications. The last chapter offers a heartrending reminder of the ultimate price some police officers pay in the line of duty. Mark and his legendary friend, John Ford, former Maine Game Warden, Sheriff, and now author, delight audiences in Maine and beyond with their tales of law enforcement back in the day in their "Blue Lights and Funny Cider" tour. Synopsis Behind the Patch by : Karen Katz
The emergence of Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs which allegedly closely resemble Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs in their style of dress has created controversies within the law enforcement and outlaw biker communities. Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs represent a social response to the breakdown of the police subculture, specifically, the erosion of brotherhood, internal solidarity, and camaraderie within police departments. Police officers who shared a passion for riding motorcycles created their own unique hybrid subculture in order to restore a sense of brotherhood and belonging among themselves. The salient features of the subculture are brotherhood, the wearing of colours with the 3-piece back patch, and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles in group formation. These features hold symbolic meanings for the club members and serve important functions within the subculture. Through motorcycling, Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs provide their members with meaningful social participation and interpersonal relations, which re-establishes meaning and a sense of purpose in their lives. This book will make a significant contribution to knowledge because it is the only book written of its kind. Few, if any, researchers have ever been able to obtain access to the Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club subculture and no other scholar has systematically observed and interviewed members of these clubs. This book may have important implications for law enforcement officials who do not understand these officers and their choice of membership in such clubs. Additionally, this book will be beneficial to club members because they have been given a voice and an opportunity to tell their stories to the public. Police officers, academics, bikers, and the general public will also find this book to be a rare and valuable glimpse into a subculture that most people know very little about.
