This proceedings volume can be considered as a monograph on the state-of-the-art in the wide range of analysis on infinite-dimensional algebraic-topological structures. Topics covered in this volume include integrability and regularity for Lie groups and Lie algebras, actions of infinite-dimensional Lie groups on manifolds of paths and related minimal orbits, quasi-invariant measures, white noise analysis, harmonic analysis on generalized convolution structures, and noncommutative geometry. A special feature of this volume is the interrelationship between problems of pure and applied mathematics and also between mathematics and physics.

This volume records most of the talks given at the Conference on Infinite-dimensional Groups held at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at Berkeley, California, May 10-May 15, 1984, as a part of the special program on Kac-Moody Lie algebras. The purpose of the conference was to review recent developments of the theory of infinite-dimensional groups and its applications. The present collection concentrates on three very active, interrelated directions of the field: general Kac-Moody groups, gauge groups (especially loop groups) and diffeomorphism groups. Because of its many applications to mathematics and mathematical physics, the representation theory of infinite-dimensional Lie and quantized enveloping algebras comprises an important area of current research. This volume includes articles from the proceedings of an international conference, ``Infinite-Dimensional Lie Theory and Conformal Field Theory'', held at the University of Virginia. Many of the contributors to the volume are prominent researchers in the field. Thisconference provided an opportunity for mathematicians and physicists to interact in an active research area of mutual interest. The talks focused on recent developments in the representation theory of affine, quantum affine, and extended affine Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras. They also highlightedapplications to conformal field theory, integrable and disordered systems. Some of the articles are expository and accessible to a broad readership of mathematicians and physicists interested in this area; others are research articles that are appropriate for more advanced readers.

Since 1984, a series of regional conferences on mathematical physics has been organized by physicists from Iran, Pakistan and Turkey to promote the research in mathematical and theoretical physics in the region. This volume, which derives from the XI Regional Conference on Mathematical Physics, comprises 8 review and 44 research articles on the most significant topics in mathematical and theoretical physics such as astrophysics and cosmology, conformal field theory, high energy physics, general relativity and plasma physics.The review articles are comprehensive and self-contained and report on the most important developments in the corresponding subjects. Each review article provides a complete list of references, which is especially useful for graduate students who are just starting their research activities; even ambitious undergraduates in physics can use these review papers as useful background material to go further into the subject and explore the research literature. The representation theory of affine Lie algebras has been developed in close connection with various areas of mathematics and mathematical physics in the last two decades. There are three excellent books on it, written by Victor G Kac. This book begins with a survey and review of the material treated in Kac's books. In particular, modular invariance and conformal invariance and are explained in more detail. The book then goes further, dealing with some of the recent topics involving the representation theory of affine Lie algebras. Since these topics are important not only in themselves but also in their application to some areas of mathematics and mathematical physics, the book expounds them with examples and detailed calculations.
