Synopsis Toucans, Barbets, and Honeyguides by : Lester Short
This book covers in unmatched detail the life history, relationships, biology, and conservation of all the world's toucans, barbets, and honeyguides. These number 133 species, found in tropical regions around the world. The toucans are especially well-known because of their dramatic bills and their association with the Amazon rainforest. The colour plates, painted by well- known US artist Albert Earl Gilbert, are probably the best paintings of these birds ever produced.

Synopsis Natural Kinds and Conceptual Change by : Joseph LaPorte
According to the received tradition, the language used to to refer to natural kinds in scientific discourse remains stable even as theories about these kinds are refined. In this illuminating book, Joseph LaPorte argues that scientists do not discover that sentences about natural kinds, like 'Whales are mammals, not fish', are true rather than false. Instead, scientists find that these sentences were vague in the language of earlier speakers and they refine the meanings of the relevant natural-kind terms to make the sentences true. Hence, scientists change the meaning of these terms, This conclusions prompts LaPorte to examine the consequences of this change in meaning for the issue of incommensurability and for the progress of science. This book will appeal to students and professional in the philosophy of science, the philosophy of biology and the philosophy of language.

Synopsis Birds in Their Habitats by : Ian Fraser
Everywhere we go there are birds, and they all have mysteries to be unravelled. These mysteries include the way they look, from bizarre to apparently mundane, why they live where they live, and the things they do, many of which are far too incredible ever to be imagined as fiction. Birds in Their Habitats is a collection of stories and experiences, which introduce fascinating aspects of birdlife, ecology and behaviour. Informed by a wealth of historical and contemporary research, Ian Fraser takes the reader on a journey through four continents: from places as unfamiliar as the Chonos Archipelago of southern Chile and the arid Sahel woodlands of northern Cameroon to those as familiar as a suburban backyard. This is a book of discovery of birds and the places they live. And with humour and personal insight, it is a book about the sometimes strange world of the people who spend a life absorbed in birds.

Synopsis Toucans For Kids by : Rachel Smith
Table of Contents Introduction What is a toucan? What kinds of toucans are there? The history of toucans and humans Toco toucan Yellow-browed toucanet Emerald toucanet Plate-billed mountain toucan Collared aracari Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction Some birds are beautiful, such as the blue and gold macaw, the dove, and the peacock; other birds are graceful, such as the different types of swan. The toucan is none of these. It is one of the funniest looking kinds of birds out there, and that includes the kiwi, the ostrich, and the flamingo. A toucan has a huge beak, some of them as long as their body. This New World bird is one fascinating creature, not only for its beak and bright colors, but also for the way it lives and does things. Not all birds are alike, after all.
