Synopsis Ajlek by : M. D. Morris

Sixteen-year-old Ajlek Stedman is Dajhanin, one of the enigmatic wild people living in the rugged Ojberdine-Haijlan Mountains. Although gentle and peace loving, the Dajhanin are nonetheless viewed with fear and suspicion by the civilized world. Abducted from his mountain home when only an infant, Ajlek has been raised by a young surgeon named Bill Stedman, who has struggled to protect Ajlek from abuse. Ajlek's innately gentle nature is tested when his sensitive mind begins to change, and he discovers something deadly festering deep in his subconscious. Ajlek soon uncovers a secret so menacing that it threatens to destroy the Dajhanin and the lives of the people he loves. He alone has the power to defend them, but to do so he must first overcome the brooding darkness in his powerful mind. Along the way, he discovers a destiny ordained a thousand years before he was born, one that could lead him to greatness. However, one mistake could cost him everything-including his life.

Synopsis Kahyani: A Novel by : M. D. Morris

The Dajhanin are enigmatic people who live in the rugged Ojberdine-Haijlan Mountains. Ajlek, a member of this kind and gentle race, lived in the middle of civilization most of his life until he was called to action to help the Dajhanin. He is now Kahyani-their leader-and he has served as such for six peace-filled years ... until now. At first, Ajlek believes random thrill-seekers are climbing into Dajhanin territory to create mischief, but he soon discovers that the problem goes far deeper than mere fun and games. To his horror, the trail leads all the way to the highest levels of civilized government and involves people capable of annihilating the Dajhanin. To stop what's happening, Ajlek must go against the wishes of the Dajhanin and travel to the heart of the nation's capital, where he's most vulnerable-and where, if things go wrong, he could disappear forever. True, Ajlek is honorable and compassionate, but how far is he willing to go to defend himself and the people he loves?

Synopsis Music from Aleppo during the Syrian War by : Clara Wenz

Aleppo is regarded as one of the historical centres of an urban Arab art music tradition known as 'tarab'. During the war that followed Syria's 2011 political uprisings, vast parts of the city were destroyed. This Element explores how 'tarab' lives on in new contexts. It does so through a focus on the work of Hello Psychaleppo, one of Aleppo's displaced musicians and the pioneer of 'electro-tarab', an eclectic style of urban electronic dance music that is conceived as a homage to Aleppo's musical legacy. Whether local religious chants, Palestinian poetry, or the image of a yellow man, electro-tarab includes an inventory of audio, visual and literary samples. These samples help conceptualise the role music has played during the Syrian war; they offer insights into Aleppo's musical and diasporic afterlife; and they illuminate some of the socio-aesthetic parameters that characterise contemporary Arab electronic music.

Synopsis Introduction to Linear Elasticity by : Phillip L. Gould

This applications-oriented introduction fills an important gap in the field of solid mechanics. Offering a thorough grounding in the tensor-based theory of elasticity for courses in mechanical, civil, materials or aeronautical engineering, it allows students to apply the basic notions of mechanics to such important topics as stress analysis. Further, they will also acquire the necessary background for more advanced work in elasticity, plasticity, shell theory, composite materials and finite element mechanics. This second edition features new chapters on the bending of thin plates, time-dependent effects, and strength and failure criteria.
