Synopsis Ship and Aircraft Fairing and Development, for Draftsmen and Loftsmen and Sheet Metal Workers by : Samuel Supplee Rabl

Long regarded as a standard in its field, this book describes the principles of fairing, development, and layout by first introducing the fundamentals of these operations and then explaining how they are used to achieve a definite result. The fundamentals of fairing and development are used identically for both large ships and small boats.Written in 1941 by the late Sam Rabl, this book has been reprinted as a result of numerous requests from persons in the boat and shipbuilding businesses.

Synopsis Sheet Metal Forming Processes and Die Design by : Vukota Boljanovic

By an engineer with decades of practical manufacturing experience, this book is a complete modern guide to sheet metal forming processes and die design - still the most commonly used methodology for the mass-production manufacture of aircraft, automobiles, and complex high-precision parts. It illustrates several different approaches to this intricate field by taking the reader through the "hows" and "whys" of product analysis, as well as the techniques for blanking, punching, bending, deep drawing, stretching, material economy, strip design, movement of metal during stamping, and tooling. While concentrating on simple, applicable engineering methods rather than complex numerical techniques, this practical reference makes it easier for readers to understand the subject by using numerous illustrations, tables, and charts. Emphasizes the influence of materials as an aid to understanding manufacturing processes and operations. Features the essential mathematical formulas and calculations needed for various die operations and performance evaluation. Shows the comparative advantages and liabilities for each manufacturing process and operation. Offers a complete picture of the knowledge and skills needed for the effective design of dies for sheet-metal forming processes highlighted with illustrative examples. Provides properties and typical applications of selected tool and die materials for various die parts.

Synopsis Bonded Repair of Aircraft Structures by : A. Baker

The conventional approach to through-life-support for aircraft structures can be divided into the following phases: (i) detection of defects, (ii) diagnosis of their nature and significance, (iii) forecasting future behaviour-prognosis, and (iv) pre scription and implementation of remedial measures including repairs. Considerable scientific effort has been devoted to developing the science and technology base for the first three phases. Of particular note is the development of fracture mechanics as a major analytical tool for metals, for predicting residual strength in the presence of cracks ( damage tolerance) and rate of crack propagation under service loading. Intensive effort is currently being devoted to developing similar approaches for fibre composite structures, particularly to assess damage tolerance and durability in the presence of delamination damage. Until recently there has been no major attempt to develop a science and tech nology base for the last phase, particularly with respect to the development of repairs. Approaches are required which will allow assessment of the type and magnitude of defects amenable to repair and the influence of the repair on the stress intensity factor (or some related parameter). Approaches are also required for the development and design of optimum repairs and for assessment of their durability.
