Synopsis Adventure Revolution by : Belinda Kirk
For the past twenty-five years, Belinda Kirk's professional life has revolved around adventure. She's seen it change people first hand: turning the timid into the confident, the addicted into the recovering, and the lost into the intentionally wandering. As a force for change, adventure can be powerful like few others. This book is about this transformational power, and the first to explore why adventure is essential to our wellbeing. From managing anxiety and overcoming fear, to finding self-worth and building interpersonal connections, to being happier, healthier, and more playful, ADVENTURE REVOLUTION draws lessons from more than two decades of experience leading groups into the wilderness around the globe. Illuminated with Belinda's personal narrative, her own research with modern hunter-gatherers, and the latest findings in neuroscience and behaviour, ADVENTURE REVOLUTION presents a compelling case for ditching the living room in favour of a longer, happier, and more adventurous life.

Synopsis The Thurb Revolution by : Alexei Panshin
"Yagoots? That's what Pickles and Daisy Smetana, formerly the Toast of the Empire, now the keepers of half an inn on a sleepy (but picturesque) vacation planet, wondered: What can you do with Yagoots? Our hero, Anthony Villiers, sometimes Viscount Charteris and peripatetic player of a most dangerous game, thought he knew. But then, how far can you trust the instincts of a man, however charming, who insists on traveling with a large, furry alien who rides a red tricycle? Someone who unveils suggestive imagery even in the innocent tales of the sainted Mrs. Waldo Wintergood herself? Even if talking pink clouds with illusions of deity do confide in him, how can you be quite sure of a man so sought after for purposes ranging from pornography to hero-worship to ... murder? (THURB)"--Back cover

Synopsis Radioactive Revolution by : Richard Hummel
Jared and his dragon companion Scarlet emerge from the depths of the earth triumphant. Fire dragons once again walk the world, but will it be enough to throw off the chains of captivity binding mankind to a dismal existence? The rulers in the floating cities tighten the noose around Jared's neck as dissent brews among the waterfolk, putting everyone he loves and protects in danger. Jared must learn how to lead and guide his people to safety. While ships from above pursue the group with powerful weapons, the fire dragons begin to bond with the waterfolk, allowing them to develop special abilities and grow their powers. Even with his superhuman body and the increased power of bonded fire dragons, Jared and Scarlet come to a critical realization; they will never stand against the cities alone. Building alliances sends them to the far corners of the world on a quest for vengeance and justice.

Synopsis On Her Own: Journalistic Adventures from San Francisco to the Chinese Revolution, 1917-27 by : Milly Bennett
Born in 1897, Milly Bennett lived an extraordinary life that led from her native San Francisco, to Honolulu, to China for the revolution, to the Soviet Union on the eve of World War II, to the Spanish Civil War, and home again, a journey punctuated with many love affairs, triumphs, and disappointments. This memoir of Milly's early years through her extended stay in China, places the current political turmoil there into a broader historical perspective. Nominally an autobiography of a remarkable woman and her brief time in China, it goes beyond the narration of an individual life by contributing details of a period of great instability, as well as exploring the sensitive topic of the involvement of foreigners in the internal politics of China.

Synopsis The American Revolution in the Southern Colonies by : David Lee Russell
As the American Revolution in the North drew to a stalemate around New York, in the South the British finally came to terms with the reality of defeat. Southern sites like Kings Mountain, Cowpens, Charleston, the Chesapeake and Yorktown were vital to American independence. The origin of the five Southern colonies - Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia - their development, the role of patriot and loyalist Southerner, and critical battles are examined. Included is a discussion of the leadership of the British forces and of the colonial patriots who inspired common citizens to fight for the sake of American independence.

Synopsis Remembering the Revolution by : Frances Flanagan
Remembering the Irish Revolution chronicles the ways in which the Irish revolution was remembered in the first two decades of Irish independence. While tales of heroism and martyrdom dominated popular accounts of the revolution, a handful of nationalists reflected on the period in more ambivalent terms. For them, the freedoms won in revolution came with great costs: the grievous loss of civilian lives, the brutalisation of Irish society, and the loss of hope for a united and prosperous independent nation. To many nationalists, their views on the revolution were traitorous. For others, they were the courageous expression of some uncomfortable truths. This volume explores these struggles over revolutionary memory through the lives of four significant, but under-researched nationalist intellectuals: Eimar O'Duffy, P. S. O'Hegarty, George Russell, and Desmond Ryan. It provides a lively account of their controversial critiques of the Irish revolution, and an intimate portrait of the friends, enemies, institutions and influences that shaped them. Based on wide-ranging archival research, Remembering the Irish Revolution puts the history of Irish revolutionary memory in a transnational context. It shows the ways in which international debates about war, human progress, and the fragility of Western civilisation were crucial in shaping the understandings of the revolution in Ireland. It provides a fresh context for analysis the major writers of the period, such as Sean O'Casey, W. B. Yeats, and Sean O'Faolain, as well as a new outlook on the genesis of the revisionist/nationalist schism that continues to resonate in Irish society today.

Synopsis Revolution and War in Contemporary Ukraine by : Olga Bertelsen
What are the reasons behind, and trajectories of, the rapid cultural changes in Ukraine since 2013? This volume highlights: the role of the Revolution of Dignity and the Russian-Ukrainian war in the formation of Ukrainian civil society; the forms of warfare waged by Moscow against Kyiv, including information and religious wars; Ukrainian and Russian identities and cultural realignment; sources of destabilization in Ukraine and beyond; memory politics and Russian foreign policies; the Kremlin’s geopolitical goals in its 'near abroad'; and factors determining Ukraine’s future and survival in a state of war. The studies included in this collection illuminate the growing gap between the political and social systems of Ukraine and Russia. The anthology illustrates how the Ukrainian revolution of 2013–2014, Russia’s annexation of the Crimean peninsula, and its invasion of eastern Ukraine have altered the post-Cold War political landscape and, with it, the regional and global power and security dynamics.
