Synopsis Catalonia Since the Spanish Civil War by : Andrew Dowling
This book examines the transformation of the Catalan nation in socio-economic, political and historical terms, and offers an innovative interpretation of the determinants of its nationalist mobilisation. With Franco's and Spanish nationalism's victory in 1939, and the consolidation of a long-lasting dictatorship, it appeared certain that the Catalan national movement would be crushed. Yet, this did not happen and Catalan nationalism and identity re-emerged at the end of Franco's dictatorship in 1975 more firmly rooted than before. The core of this book traces the Francoist repression and the nationalist response to it, demonstrating how new political actors reconfigured Catalan nationalism over the course of the Franco regime (1939--1975). Post-Franco, Catalan cultural and political identity was consolidated and Catalonia became the most successful state-less nationalism in western Europe. The 21st century has been marked by an ever-growing independence movement, culminating in the vast demonstration in the city of Barcelona in July 2010. Andrew Dowling provides multi-faceted viewpoints in historic perspective, and reflects on possible steps and outcomes for this new pro-independence turn in Catalan nationalism. This study will appeal not only to students of Spain but also to those interested in nationalism as a separate issue of enquiry. The themes treated in the book -- Franco's Spain, nationalism, anarchism, Catholicism, communism and the Catalan role in Spain's transition to democracy -- make this work an essential point of reference for students and researchers in Hispanic studies, modern European history and political science. Published in association with the Catalan Observatory, London School of Economics.

Synopsis Women’s Networks of Spiritual Promotion in the Peninsular Kingdoms (13th-16th Centuries) by : AA. VV.
The starting point for this research is the ascertainment of a major change in the spirituality paradigm of the last centuries of the European Middle Ages, which, since the 13th century, results in a new and final interpretation, focused on pauperistic, evangelical and apostolic ideals, of the religious phenomenon. This symbolic revolution, which completely changed parameters and involved both men and women, entailed an intense urbanisation and feminisation of spirituality. Within that general framework, the pages of this book attempt at investigating the penetration, evolution and changes of the new forms of female monastic and religious life in a delimited space and time: the kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula during the period from the 13th to the 16th century, trying to establish the connection between those new spaces of female spirituality and the strategies, wishes and potentialities of the women who promoted their creation, strengthening or reform.

Synopsis Historical Dictionary of the Catalans by : Helena Buffery
In this reference, Buffery and Marcer cover all of the areas historically inhabited by the Catalan people. These are, in order of size and population: Catalonia, which accounts for over half of the population of the Catalan-speaking areas; Valencia, with over a third; the Balearic Islands with just under 8 percent; and the Catalunya Nord, the Principality of Andorra, and the Catalan-speaking areas within Aragon, Murcia, and Alghero. The Historical Dictionary of the Catalans deals not only with the people who live in Catalonia, but with the language and culture of the Catalan countries as well. This is done through a chronology, an introductory essay, a bibliography, and over 600 cross-referenced dictionary entries on significant persons, places, events, institutions, and aspects of culture, society, economy, and politics.

Synopsis The Scepter of Ur by : José Cámara
Book trailers: https://youtu.be/vC5Ie0fRP6c https://youtu.be/FxPUZ6AfMP0 FOREWORD Gabriel Torres, a young university student from Seville, discovers overnight that his life is caught up in an unpredictable and apocalyptic spiral; an immense power is at work in his name. Since the dawn of time, human beings have perpetually manipulated the rest of their fellow human beings, and two ancestral brotherhoods that compete to command the destiny of humanity link their existence so intrinsically that they are willing to extinguish all life on Earth. A wonderful journey awaits you on a lively carpet of magical colors, which will transport you from the cradle of civilization in the Middle East to the great European Hadron Collider and the emerging Asian continent. A chaotic and unbridled tidal wave of spies, theories and legends, supernatural powers and beings from other planets. Under the placid China Sea and the healthy coolness of the Tokyo sky, the mother of all wars is about to be unleashed... Welcome to a contemporary tale born at the dawn of civilization.
