Synopsis A Sword Forged by : Charles Foster

The world of Arith is a fractured land with a splintered people. But humanity is recovering, for the demons have been locked away behind the Wall, and those that shattered the land with the Sundering have not been seen for so long they are now considered only myth and legend. But on the eve of a great storm, three people will gather together to fight an evil that makes the land's previous tormentors pale in comparison. A warrior who hides his face, a barbarian woman with the power of the wolf, and a boy who hasn't yet discovered himself will be the keys to survival in a battle prophesied nearly two thousands years before. It was this prophecy, however, that started Arith's torment and downhill slide toward destruction. It was this prophecy which created the demons and set the chain of events into motion that forced the High Ones to Sunder the land in their departure. And now, three heroes who've only been seen in one man's prophetic vision will have to overcome their own trials in order to forge themselves into the needed weapons capable of fighting off an insane evil intent on devouring all of Creation.

Synopsis Forging the Sword by : Hilari Bell

THE SPIRIT OF THE ANCIENT CHAMPION, SORAHB, WAS REBORN INTO THE BODY OF A DEGHAN YOUTH. There is not much time left on the Hrum's self-imposed limit -- only a few months. If in that time they don't take all of Farsala, then the Farsalans will regain their independence. Ceaselessly, Soraya, Kavi, and Jiaan work to keep control of what little land remains free from Hrum rule: parts of the countryside, the badlands, and the walled city of Mazad. They have many people helping them, but there is still one important piece missing: a sword that is able to withstand the Hrum's watersteel. In the end Farsala will fall if it can't win in battle. But one thing none of these young heroes can foresee is the growing desperation of the Hrum leaders. It will lead some to break their own laws and sacred pacts and will reveal truths to Kavi, Soraya, and Jiaan about the nature of war, the nature of human beings, and -- most importantly -- the nature of themselves. Hilari Bell builds the action and intrigue to a crescendo in the final installment of this critically acclaimed trilogy.

Synopsis Forging the Sword by : Benjamin Jensen

As entrenched bureaucracies, military organizations might reasonably be expected to be especially resistant to reform and favor only limited, incremental adjustments. Yet, since 1945, the U.S. Army has rewritten its capstone doctrine manual, Operations, fourteen times. While some modifications have been incremental, collectively they reflect a significant evolution in how the Army approaches warfare—making the U.S. Army a crucial and unique case of a modern land power that is capable of change. So what accounts for this anomaly? What institutional processes have professional officers developed over time to escape bureaucracies' iron cage? Forging the Sword conducts a comparative historical process-tracing of doctrinal reform in the U.S. Army. The findings suggest that there are unaccounted-for institutional facilitators of change within military organizations. Thus, it argues that change in military organizations requires "incubators," designated subunits established outside the normal bureaucratic hierarchy, and "advocacy networks" championing new concepts. Incubators, ranging from special study groups to non-Title 10 war games and field exercises, provide a safe space for experimentation and the construction of new operational concepts. Advocacy networks then connect different constituents and inject them with concepts developed in incubators. This injection makes changes elites would have otherwise rejected a contagious narrative.
