Synopsis A Preliminary List of the Birds of Wayne County, Ohio (Classic Reprint) by : Harry C. Oberholser
Excerpt from A Preliminary List of the Birds of Wayne County, Ohio The geological formation of Wayne County is, with some minor modifications, essentially that of northeastern Ohio. Consequently there are absent all the series between the coal measures of the Carboniferous and the superincumbent Quaternary deposits; the Mesozoic and Tertiary being unrepresented. By reason of its position on the eastern Slope of the axis of the anticlinal, Wayne County marks one of the western limits of the Ohio coal deposits. The coal measures are confined principally to the eastern half of the County, and where present rest either directly upon the sub carboniferous Waverly group, or upon the superincumbent sand conglomerate formation. Coal in paying quantities and of good quality is extensively mined in several of the eastern townships. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis The Birds of Ohio by : William Leon Dawson
Excerpt from The Birds of Ohio: A Complete Scientific and Popular Description of the 320 Species of Birds Found in the State The order of treatment is substantially the opposite of the one now followed by the American Ornithologists' Union, and is justifiable princi pally 011 the ground that it follows a certain order of interest and convenience. Beginning, as it does, with the supposedly highest forms of bird - life, it brings to the fore the most familiar birds, and avoids that rude juxtaposition of the lowest form of one group and the highest of the one above it, which is the confessed weakness of the A. O. U. Code. The summaries under the caption General Range are chiefly those furnished by the Second Edition of the A. O. U. Check-list, modified by such more recent information as has come to hand.
