That the life story of this servant of Christ should be chronicled for others was inevitable, for there is so much in that life. C. I. Scofield was the man most responsible for the popularization of dispensational premillennialism. Influenced by the dispensationalism of J. N. Darby, Scofield was a regular on the Bible conference circuit and established a correspondence course that enrolled several thousand students. His book, 'Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth', is still in print and his dispensational charts appeared in fundamentalist churches throughout the twentieth century. Scofield's crowning achievement was the publication of the Scofield Reference Bible in 1909. Trumbull's biography is the only book-length look at the life of the man who had one of the greatest impacts on twentieth-century American fundamentalism.
