This is the first comprehensive study of popular culture in twentieth-century China, and of its political impact during the Sino-Japanese War of 1937-1945 (known in China as "The War of Resistance against Japan"). Chang-tai Hung shows in compelling detail how Chinese resisters used a variety of popular cultural forms—especially dramas, cartoons, and newspapers—to reach out to the rural audience and galvanize support for the war cause. While the Nationalists used popular culture as a patriotic tool, the Communists refashioned it into a socialist propaganda instrument, creating lively symbols of peasant heroes and joyful images of village life under their rule. In the end, Hung argues, the Communists' use of popular culture contributed to their victory in revolution.

The story of European-Russian collaboration in space is little known and its importance all too often understated. This is to identify how the team bounced back after the death of their founder and inspiration, Colin Chapman, and to work out where their decline began. But it's also just an excuse to relive what was a great period of F1, the original turbo era. The book itself is full of detail, insights and written by someone passionate about this subject matter. An essential ingredient for a good book.This book is not shy in telling readers how things might have been done differently. It has many exclusives and is controversial in its findings. There are important lessons to be learned from a team's downfall, and that was certainly the case with Lotus as readers will come to learn. l've worked hard since the abridged version of this book (released in January 2020) to ensure any feedback from that has been implemented into this updated version. As a result this book is twice as long & detailed as that abridged version. I believe this book provides outstanding value for money for the content you are getting.

In examining the intellectual history in contemporary South Africa, Eze engages with the emergence of ubuntu as one discourse that has become a mirror and aftermath of South Africa s overall historical narrative. This book interrogates a triple socio-political representation of ubuntu as a displacement narrative for South Africa s colonial consciousness; as offering a new national imaginary through its inclusive consciousness, in which different, competing, and often antagonistic memories and histories are accommodated; and as offering a historicity in which the past is transformed as a symbol of hope for the present and the future. This book offers a model for African intellectual history indignant to polemics but constitutive of creative historicism and healthy humanism.

This study examines how selected authors of the late 20th and early 21st centuries write about their creative processes in old age and thus purposefully produce a late style of their own. Late-life creativity has not always been viewed favourably. Prevalent "peak-and-decline" models suggest that artists, as they grow old, cease to produce highquality work. Aiming to counter such ageist discourses, the present study proposes a new ethics of reading literary texts by elderly authors. For this purpose, it develops a methodology that consolidates textual analysis with cultural gerontology.
