Synopsis McTaggart's Paradox by : R.D. Ingthorsson
McTaggart’s argument for the unreality of time, first published in 1908, set the agenda for 20th-century philosophy of time. Yet there is very little agreement on what it actually says—nobody agrees with the conclusion, but still everybody finds something important in it. This book presents the first critical overview of the last century of debate on what is popularly called "McTaggart’s Paradox". Scholars have long assumed that McTaggart’s argument stands alone and does not rely on any contentious ontological principles. The author demonstrates that these assumptions are incorrect—McTaggart himself explicitly claimed his argument to be dependent on the ontological principles that form the basis of his idealist metaphysics. The result is that scholars have proceeded to understand the argument on the basis of their own metaphysical assumptions, duly arriving at very different interpretations. This book offers an alternative reading of McTaggart’s argument, and at the same time explains why other commentators arrive at their mutually incompatible interpretations. It will be of interest to students and scholars with an interest in the philosophy of time and other areas of contemporary metaphysics.

Synopsis Pattern Recognition by : Bernd Radig
Sometimes milestones in the evolution of the DAGM Symposium become immediately visible. The Technical Committee decided to publish the symposium proceedings completely in English. As a consequence we successfully negotiated with Springer Verlag to publish in the international well accepted series “Lecture Notes in Computer Science”. The quality of the contributions convinced the editors and the lectors. Thanks to them and to the authors. We received 105 acceptable, good, and even excellent manuscripts. We selected carefully, using three reviewers for each anonymized paper, 58 talks and posters. Our 41 reviewers had a hard job evaluating and especially rejecting contributions. We are grateful for the time and effort they spent in this task. The program committee awarded prizes to the best papers. We are much obliged to the generous sponsors. We had three invited talks from outstanding colleagues, namely Bernhard Nebel (Robot Soccer – A Challenge for Cooperative Action and Perception), Thomas Lengauer (Computational Biology – An Interdisciplinary Challenge for Computational Pattern Recognition), and Nassir Navab (Medical and Industrial Augmented Reality: Challenges for Real Time Vision, Computer Graphics, and Mobile Computing). N. Navab even wrote a special paper for this conference, which is included in the proceedings. We were proud that we could convince well known experts to offer tutorials to our participants: H. P. Seidel, Univ. Saarbrücken – A Framework for the Acquisition, Processing, and Interactive Display of High Quality 3D Models; S. Heuel, Univ. Bonn – Projective Geometry for Grouping and Orientation Tasks; G. Rigoll, Univ.

Synopsis Pronouns by : D. N. Shankara Bhat
On the basis of a cross-linguistic study of over 250 languages, this book brings to light several fascinating characteristics of pronouns. It argues that these words do not form a single category, but rather two different categories called 'personal pronouns' and 'proforms'. It points outseveral differences between the two, such as the occurrence of a dual structure among proforms but not among personal pronouns. These differences are shown to derive from the distinct functions that the two categories have to perform in language. The book also shows that the so-called interrogative pronouns of familiar languages do not actually have interrogation as their meaning. One can only assign the meaning of indefiniteness to them. Further, the notion of indefiniteness that can be associated with these and other pronouns is quitedifferent from the one that can be associated with noun phrases. Other interesting aspects of this book include the postulation of certain typological distinctions like 'two-person' and 'three-person' languages and 'free-pronoun' and 'bound-pronoun' languages.

Synopsis Review of Marketing Research by : Naresh K Malhotra
"The Review of Marketing Research" series provides current, state-of-the-art articles by the marketing field's leading researchers and scholars. Unlike other research publications in the field, which impose major constraint on article length, RMR publishes longer chapters that are not only theoretically rigorous but also offer richer detail, including literature reviews, cutting-edge methodologies, empirical studies, international developments, guidelines for implementation, and suggestions for future theory development and testing. "The RMR" series is edited by Naresh K. Malhotra along with a distinguished editorial review board. Each contribution undergoes a double-blind review process, and each volume represents an across-the-board view of the full range of current marketing research methodologies.
