Synopsis The World Reformed Fellowship Statement of Faith by : A. T. B. McGowan

“At the inaugural General Assembly of the World Reformed Fellowship (WRF) in 2000 . . . I proposed that the . . . WRF could serve the church by writing a new confession of faith for the twenty-first century . . . The first reason was that the members of the WRF were drawn from many nations and from many denominations and were using a whole range of confessional statements . . . At the same time, there was general agreement that we were all ‘Reformed’ in theology . . . The second reason was the need for a confessional statement to address the issues the church is facing today . . . The third reason was that all of our confessions were written in Western Europe, whereas the leadership in the global church has now moved to the southern hemisphere . . . [S]cholars from Africa, Asia, Australasia and South America joined with theologians from Europe and North America to engage in [the] task . . . [The Statement] was presented to the WRF General Assembly . . . in April 2010. An invitation was then issued to all members of the WRF to suggest any changes or additions to the text . . . [The Statement presented here was approved by the WRF Bord of Directors in 2011. It] . . . is not intended to replace [other] . . . confessional statements . . . [but] may be of use to individuals and churches as they reflect on the nature of Reformed Theology and its application to the theological and moral issues which confront the church in the twenty-first century.”

Synopsis Union with Christ by : Robert Letham

Union with Christ is the central truth of the whole biblical teaching about salvation. The entirety of our relationship with God can be summed up in this doctrine. Yet when people ask what this union actually is, we flounder. The incarnation shows that God has made us to be united with him, and God has given us his Word to enable us to understand the nature of this union. Set out with Robert Letham to explore this doctrine from Scripture -- using help from the church fathers to modern theologians. - Publisher.

Synopsis Nacido Fundamentalista, Nacido De Nuevo Catolico by : David Currie

Synopsis Union and Communion with Christ by : Maurice Roberts

The work of Christ in His life, death, resurrection, and ascension is most impressive and foundational to the Christian faith. Yet these grand acts of redemption are of little benefit if one is not so closely associated with Jesus as to find his life and death in Him. In Union and Communion with Christ, Maurice Roberts offers us eighteen meditations on the Christian's union with Christ and its accompanying fellowship. These reflections probe the essence of this blessed union, examine its evidences and revel in its benefits. Table of Contents: The Love which Believers Owe to Christ The Union of Believers with Christ The Nature of our Union with Christ A Union More Enduring than Time Abiding in Christ Christ, Our Life and Our Righteousness Seated with Christ in Grace and Glory Evidences of a Real Union with Christ The Love of God to Those in Christ The Unction which Teaches Believers Christ and His Church The Blessed Fellowship of Believers in Christ The Brotherly Bond of Christian Love Fellowship with Christ in His Sufferings and Joys Our Communion with Christ in Joyous Experiences Our Union with Christ in the Sacraments The Union of Christ and His People Reflected in the Psalms Man's Instinctive Desire for God's Fellowship

Synopsis Unity and Catholicity in Christ by : Eric J. DeMeuse

"Debates concerning the relationship between Tridentine Catholicism and Catholicism after Vatican II dominate theological conversation today, particularly with regard to understandings of the Church and its engagement with the world. Current historical narratives paint ecclesiology after the Council of Trent as dominated by juridical concerns, uniformity, and institutionalism. Purportedly neglected are the spiritual, diverse, and missional aspects of the Church. This book challenges such narratives by investigating the Spanish Jesuit Francisco Suâarez's theology of ecclesial unity and catholicity. Analyzing standard as well as overlooked sources of Suâarez's ecclesiology, the author shows how Suâarez wrestles with the new demands of his time and anticipates later ecumenical developments in twentieth-century Catholic ecclesiology. Early modern expansion prompted theologians after Trent to reckon with the ecclesial status of baptized Protestants, the Greek Orthodox, and non-believers in the New World. It further prompted reflection on the universality, or catholicity, of the Church, and how the Church's mission to the nations serves her greater unity in Christ. Throughout this exposition, the author reveals Suâarez's vision of the Church to be deeply spiritual, diverse, and missional-not at the expense of the institutional, but as it's necessary and life-giving source. The Church, for Suâarez, is primarily a way of life. This book explores not only Suâarez's speculative ecclesiology, but how the unity and catholicity of the body of Christ is lived out in practice, that is, in the worship and works of the faithful, and, most notably, in the charism of his own religious order, the Society of Jesus. Suâarez thus shows his readers what the spiritual dynamic between Christic unity and missional catholicity should look like in the Church"--
