Synopsis No Such Thing As IMPOSSIBLE by : JAIRO ÁLVAREZ-BOTERO
NO SUCH THING AS IMPOSSIBLE – From Adversity to Triumph” is the inspiring story of the remarkable life of Jairo Alvarez-Botero, a brave, caring seventy-three years old Colombian immigrant and businessman who is living proof that the American dream is not a myth. His courage and determination will brought him from a difficult life in Colombia, South America, to a prosperous life in the United States. Raised by loving parents who provided a wonderful example of good character and hard work, while also sharing their good fortune with those less privileged, Jairo drew upon his great faith and his father’s profound wisdom to always do the right thing when lesser men would have run quickly and run far from the many difficult challenges that crossed his life path. Extremely well written, this book draws the reader from the tale of Jairo’s simple childhood at a potato farm in the Andes Mountains. As a young man he had ambitions to become a general, but destiny would put him on different course. It was a path that would stop him of his career in the Army, but afford him the opportunity to save his president’s life and avert a coup that would have resulted in the re-establishing of a dictatorship in Colombia. In exchange for his life, at age of twenty-five with one hundred dollars in his pocket and unable o speak a word of English he came in a cargo military plain as a poor immigrant in the United States. He was forced into menial labor in a filthy environment in order to survive; from his humble determination to learn the English language on a statue of Moses in Washington Park, Albany, NY. Within three and a half years he had learned the language well enough to earn an honor degree from Albany Business College in Albany, New York. After years spent struggling, Jairo finally found success in the land development and home construction builder to become the largest in Louisiana, operating his several enterprises with the help of his wife of 44 years and his three children and their families. Today Jairo is an artist, an Olympic athlete, a writer, cancer survivor, motivational speaker and philanthropist who dedicate good part of his fortune to many charities organizations. No Such Thing as Impossible is the compelling story of a courageous, compassionate man who has provided a wonderful example for his children, but also to his readers as he tells the astonishing tale of finding his way from very difficult circumstances to taking great joy in living the American dream. Simply put, this is a great and inspiring read. The proceeds of this book go to recognized charity organizations.

Synopsis Ulysses S. Grant by : Brooks Simpson
Many modern historians have painted Ulysses S. Grant as a butcher, a drunk, and a failure as president. Others have argued the exact opposite and portray him with saintlike levels of ethic and intellect. In Ulysses S. Grant: Triumph over Adversity 1822–1865, historian Brooks D. Simpson takes neither approach, recognizing Grant as a complex and human figure with human faults, strengths, and motivations. Simpson offers a balanced and complete study of Grant from birth to the end of the Civil War, with particular emphasis on his military career and family life and the struggles he overcame in his unlikely rise from unremarkable beginnings to his later fame as commander of the Union Army. Chosen as a New York Times Notable Book upon its original publication, Ulysses S. Grant is a readable, thoroughly researched portrait that sheds light on this controversial figure.

Synopsis Short-Handed by : Bill Schultz
Bill Schultz considers himself blessed. Early in life, he was a great athlete and a student leader. As an adult, he excelled in the corporate world and as a business owner. Hes a loving husband, father, grandfather, and leader in his church and community. But what makes Bills life story truly extraordinary is how it all began. Bill was born with severe congenital deformities of his left arm and hand and his right leg, which was amputated shortly after his birth. He overcame these unbelievable obstacles through the acceptance and encouragement of many people in his life. From the moment he was born, Bill was accepted and loved by his parents and extended family. Throughout his life, schoolmates, co-workers, friends, his wife, and his children continued that same level of love and encouragement. With this unending support, and Gods grace, Bill overcame many physical and emotional obstacles, and achieved both personal and career happiness and success. Bills life journey is a powerful message of faith, grace, and hope! I cant really say that I ever considered you handicapped. Sure, I recognized you were different. But to me, you were just a great guy. Im not sure where you got this inner strength and courage. Im sure some was from your folks and your older brother. But I know for sure a lot came from Bill Schultz himself. Jim Emery, Bills best friend growing up in Schenectady (NY) I was always impressed with your determination and infectious enthusiasm. It was not a hard decision selecting you as my varsity football manager You became an integral part of the team. You had the charisma and leadership ability to overcome that barrier. You were always inspirational and we were much better because of that. Don Boothe, head football coach, Niskayuna High School (NY), 19591974

Synopsis The Obstacle Is the Way by : Ryan Holiday
#1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller The Obstacle is the Way has become a cult classic, beloved by men and women around the world who apply its wisdom to become more successful at whatever they do. Its many fans include a former governor and movie star (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a hip hop icon (LL Cool J), an Irish tennis pro (James McGee), an NBC sportscaster (Michele Tafoya), and the coaches and players of winning teams like the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Cubs, and University of Texas men’s basketball team. The book draws its inspiration from stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy of enduring pain or adversity with perseverance and resilience. Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” Ryan Holiday shows us how some of the most successful people in history—from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs—have applied stoicism to overcome difficult or even impossible situations. Their embrace of these principles ultimately mattered more than their natural intelligence, talents, or luck. If you’re feeling frustrated, demoralized, or stuck in a rut, this book can help you turn your problems into your biggest advantages. And along the way it will inspire you with dozens of true stories of the greats from every age and era.
