The Seven Plays in English Verse Sophocles - Included herein are the seven surviving plays of Athens' pre-eminent playwright, Sophocles, masterfully translated by Lewis Campbell, M.A., LL.D. The plays included are: 'Antigone,' 'Aias,' 'King Oedipus,' 'Electra,' 'The Trachinian Maidens,' and 'Oedipus at Colonus.'

Here are six one-act dramas and comedies, ranging in length from 10 to 65 minutes, plus a full-length musical based on the collaboration between W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan in their mostly happy but sometimes argumentative creation of the D’Oyly Carte Savoy Operettas. Choosing Home—the play that opens the book—won four awards following its first performance in 2005. It was then commissioned to be serialized as a five–part radio play. Here, the original cast are making the recording under the direction of BBC producer Jenny Kendall-Tobias. It has since become one of Blicq’s most-produced plays.

The Persians, the only Greek tragedy to deal with events from recent Athenian history, depicts the final defeat of Persia in the battle of Salamis, through the eyes of the Persian court of King Xerxes, becoming a tragic lesson in tyranny. In Prometheus Bound, the defiant Titan Prometheus is brutally punished by Zeus for daring to improve the state of wretchedness and servitude in which mankind is kept. Seven Against Thebes shows the inexorable downfall of the last members of the cursed family of Oedipus, while The Suppliants relates the pursuit of the fifty daughters of Danaus by the fifty sons of Aegyptus, and their final rescue by a heroic king.

The seven plays to date of Yasmina Reza, one of France's most prominent female playwrights, are popular both in France and abroad. Despite her commercial success, her plays have often been ignored in academic circles, and few scholars have attempted to explore the mechanics of her playwriting. This text seeks to unpack the essentials of Reza's style and to explore each play as a component of Reza's theatrical oeuvre. The result is a fuller understanding of her theatrical poetics and her development as an artist.
