Synopsis Simple Fly Fishing by : Yvon Chouinard
Modern-day fly fishing, like much in life, has become exceedingly complex, with high-tech gear, a confusing array of flies and terminal tackle, accompanied by high-priced fishing guides. This book reveals that the best way to catch trout is simply, with a rod and a fly and not much else. The wisdom in this book comes from a simpler time, when the premise was: the more you know, the less you need. It teaches the reader how to discover where the fish are, at what depth, and what they are feeding on. Then it describes the techniques needed to present a fly at that depth, make it look lifelike, and hook the fish. With chapters on wet flies, nymphs, and dry flies, its authors employ both the tenkara rod as well as regular fly fishing gear to cover all the bases. Illustrated by renowned fish artist James Prosek, with inspiring photographs and stories throughout, Simple Fly Fishing reveals the secrets and the soul of this captivating sport.

Synopsis Basic Stream Flies by : Jim Schollmeyer
This softcover, spiral book contains 28 fly patterns that can be used to match most fishing situations. Each pattern includes information on what the fly imitates, and when, where, and how to fish it. These patterns were chosen not only for their ability to catch trout, but also to show the different types and styles of commonly used flies. To reduce the number of patterns needed, natural insects with similar body shapes or stages of development are grouped together, and one or two basic patterns that imitate the insects in each group are presented. Then by changing the size and or body color of the basic pattern, you can match all of the naturals in its group. With each basic pattern there is a photograph showing useful variations of the fly or a similar pattern. Each basic pattern is accompanied by instructions on how to tie it. If you are not a fly tier, most of the patterns or ones similar to them can be purchased from a fly shop.

Synopsis Fly Patterns for Stillwaters by : Philip Rowley
Uncover the Secrets to Fly Tying for Lakes Many fly fishermen find lakes to be vast, intimidating bodies of water. Trout are fussy, the waters are tough to read, and any number of food items could be on the menu. So what do you do? In Fly Patterns for Stillwater, Phil Rowley uncovers the riches lakes have to offer the patient angler. Phil has spent countless hours studying the food sources that make up the diet of trout; then set up home aquariums to more closely observe the movement, development, and emergence of these aquatic insects. In this book he explains the link between understanding the food base within a lake and designing effective fly patterns for these environs. He includes: Chironomids, scuds, damselflies, leeches, mayflies, caddisflies, water boatmen and backswimmers, terrestrials, beetles, forage fish, and snails. Each chapter begins with a detailed description of the particular food item outlining its life cycle, relative importance, size, coloration, and habits, then proven patterns are given, describing both materials and tying techniques. Fly Patterns for Stillwaters, will give you the confidence you need to be a successful stillwater angler.

Synopsis Famous British Columbia Fly-Fishing Waters by : Art Lingren
Looking over the past 150 years, Art Lingren explores the origins of fly-fishing in British Columbia. He covers both the special waters where fly-fishing developed and the legendary fishermen who laid the foundation for the fly-fishers to come. Many of these fishermen were the first in all of North America to experiment with the flies and techniques of Great Britain. Lingren discusses such fabled waters as the Campbell River, the Dean, Bella Coola, and Skagit rivers, and of course the famous Thompson. A description of each water is given, including: its history, effective techniques and flies, species information, excerpts from historical references, local anglers and their experiences, and more. For many anglers, exploring the history of fly-fishing is as important a part of their life as actually getting out on the water. This book is for those fly-fishers with a love for the history of fly-fishing in North America.
