Synopsis Proceedings of the Ninth International Cryogenic Engineering Conference, Kobe, Japan, 11-14 May 1982 by : K. Yasukochi

Proceedings of the Ninth International Cryogenic Engineering Conference, Kobe, Japan, 11-14 May 1982 contains the papers presented during the entirety of the conference. The overall focus is on the presentation of technical developments and new applications in the field of cryogenics. The topics covered during the conference include high speed magnetic levitation train, magnetic fusion energy and its cryogenic applications, and cooling effects in a vortex cooler. Superconductivity and fusion, digital applications of the Josephson effect, thermally activated stirling cryocooler, and large cryogenic systems of the energy doubler are discussed as well. Physicists, chemists, engineers, and researchers in the field of cryogenics will find the compendium very insightful.

Synopsis High Field Superconducting Magnets by : Fred M. Ašner

Superconducting devices, which can carry huge currents and generate strong magnetic fields without losing energy, are improving at a tremendous pace. This book provides a modern, up-to-date reference on both the physics and the technology of superconducting magnets. It is unique in combining the theoretical aspects of superconductivity, electromagnetic field theory, and the thermodynamics of helium cooling with the technological details of producing and engineering high performance superconducting materials. The book provides the reliable, expert advice for designing, manufacturing, and testing complex high field superconducting magnets of predictable performance, and it places particular emphasis on beam transport and accelerator magnets in high energy particle physics.

Synopsis Advances in Cryogenic Engineering by : K.D. Timmerhaus

The 1985 joint Cryogenic Engineering/International Cryogenic Materi als Conference was held on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts. About 350 papers were presented at the joint conference on a wide variety of topics in cryogenic science and engineering. This volume of Advances in cryogenic Eogineerlng, the thirty-first in the series which began in 1954, contains most of the papers which were presented at the 1985 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. Each paper was rigorously peer reviewed to maintain the international reputation of Advances as the premier archival publication in the field of cryoscience, engineering, and technology. All the papers published in Volume 31 contain an abstract. A copy of the book will be sent to all maj or abstracting services, which should improve retrieval of the information contained in the published papers. I would like to thank the authors and those who served as reviewers. I especially appreciate the assistance of my colleague M. E. Stone who edited some of the papers for this volume. Terry Gutierrez was invaluable in preparing the manuscripts for publication, and I thank her. xvii DEDICATION Dr. Samuel C. Collins, Professor Emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, internationally known as the father of practical helium liquefiers and founder of the MIT Cryogenic Engineering Laboratory, died on June 19, 1984, in George Washington University Hospital, Washington, DC.

Synopsis Engineering Superconductivity by : Peter J. Lee

Comprehensive coverage of superconductivity from the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Engineering Superconductivity features fifty articles selected from the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the one truly indispensable reference for electrical engineers. Superconductor technology has made highly advanced experiments possible in chemistry, biochemistry, particle physics, and health sciences, and introduced new applications currently in use in fields from medicine to cellular communications. Taken together, these articles-written by acknowledged experts in the field-provide the most complete and in-depth accounting of superconductivity in existence. The book brings together a wealth of information that would not be available to those who do not have access to the full 24-volume encyclopedia. This thorough survey looks at the application of superconductors from an engineer's practical perspective rather than a theoretical approach. Engineering Superconductivity provides full coverage of the fundamentals of superconducting behavior and explains the properties and fabrication methods of commercially produced superconductors. Up-to-date material on superconductor applications as well as competing technologies is included. The fifty articles presented here are divided into three sections: Superconductivity and magnetism Superconductors Applications and related technology Engineering Superconductivity is a complete and up-to-date reference for engineers, physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and anyone working with superconductors.
