Synopsis Handbook of Applied Meteorology by : David D. Houghton
This handbook presents, for the first time, an authoritative, comprehensive reference on meteorological knowledge and technology. Designed for professionals and technicians outside the meteorological profession, this broad-ranging book offers general guidelines for those who need information on the effects of weather, e.g., on heating requirements and structural strength. Discusses the importance of meteorology in engineering and science as well as its general importance in society.

Synopsis Applied Hydrometeorology by : Pukhraj Rakhecha
Water is vital for life. Since the dawn of civilization, much effort has been made to harness sources of fresh water. Recent years have raised global awareness of the need for increasing demand of water worldwide, largely because of growing population, rising standard of living, higher demand for energy, and greater appreciation for environmental quality. As an example, the world population has increased threefold in the past five decades. In order to meet the rising water demand, water resources are being developed by building large dams, reservoirs, barrages and weirs across rivers worldwide. The guiding principle for water resources development has been to ensure adequate supply of water for agriculture, domestic use (including fine drinking water), waste disposal, industries, and energy production, with due attention to maintain the ecosystem functions. This development, however, depends on a holistic, cooperative and scientific approach. The basic inputs in the assessment of water resources for a given region are from hydrological data and the subject of hydrology forms the core in achieving sustainable development of water resources. Barring a few exceptions, hydrological data for most river basins are sparse and therefore it is difficult to comprehensively assess their water resources. The major source of water is rainfall which occurs as a result of condensation of atmospheric moisture governed by the science of meteorology.

Synopsis Applied Atmospheric Dynamics by : Amanda H. Lynch
The weather can be a cause of disruption, despair and even danger everywhere around the world at one time or another. Even when benign it is a source of constant fascination. Applied Atmospheric Dynamics connects this interest with the theoretical underpinnings of fluid dynamics; linking real physical events as diverse as Hurricane Katrina and the strong katabatic winds of Antarctica, with quantitative conceptual models of atmospheric behaviour. Assuming only basic calculus the book provides a physical basis for understanding atmospheric motions around the globe as well as detailing the advances that have led to a greater understanding of weather and climate. The accompanying supplementary CD-ROM features colour graphics, maps, databases, animations, project materials, as well as weather data tips. Covers the standard theoretical principles of atmospheric dynamics and applies the theory to global real world examples Assumes only non-vector based calculus Features supplementary CD-ROM with electronic versions of all figures, case study data and possible term projects An invaluable text for students of Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Geography and Environmental Science A Solutions Manual is also available for this textbook on the Instructor Companion Site www.wileyeurope.com/college/lynch

Synopsis Radar Meteorology by : Frédéric Fabry
This practical textbook introduces the fundamental physics behind radar measurements, to guide students and practitioners in the proper interpretation of radar reflectivity, Doppler velocity and dual-polarization imagery. Operational applications are explored, such as how radar imagery can be used to analyze and forecast convective and widespread weather systems. The book concludes with an overview of current research topics, including the study of clouds and precipitation using radars, signal processing, and data assimilation. Numerous full-color illustrations are included, as well as problem sets, case studies, and a variety of supplementary electronic material including animated time sequences of images to help convey complex concepts. This book is a valuable resource for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in radar meteorology and other related courses, such as precipitation microphysics and dynamics. It will also make a useful reference for researchers, professional meteorologists and hydrologists.
