The need for green technologies and solutions which will deliver the energy requirements of both the developed and developing world to support sustainability and protect the environment worldwide has never been more urgent. This book contains the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Green Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (GEESD2021) which, due to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world and with the strict travel restrictions in China, was held as a hybrid conference (both physically and online via Zoom) in Shanghai, China on 26 and 27 June 2021. It provided an opportunity to bring together an international community of leading scientists, researchers, engineers and academics, as well as industrial professionals, to exchange and share their experiences and research results in the energy, environment and sustainable development sector. In total, 80 participants were able to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest developments in the field. GEESD2021 attracted more than 250 submissions, 88 of which were accepted after an extensive period of peer review by more than 100 reviewers and members of the program committee. These are included here, grouped into 3 sections, with 28 papers on sustainable energy; 34 on ecology; and 26 papers covering environmental pollution and protection. Offering an overview of the most up-to-date findings and technologies in the field of sustainable energy and environmental protection, the book will be of interest to all those working in this field.

This book covers the full spectrum of water and environment conservation, offering management lessons, identifying the barriers to transformative change, and then presenting agendas and initiatives for sustainable global water and environment management. Water is a unique resource and is vital to human beings and ecosystems. At the same time, it is a driver of growth and development. However, in a changing world factors such as rapid population growth and urbanization are having an increasing impact on water and the environment, and managing critical water resources sustainably represents an unprecedented and urgent challenge. As such, the book describes innovative approaches that can be used to support the operationalization and delivery of sustainable water and environment management. ICSDWE 2019 is dedicated to sustainable water and environment, with a focus on the water resources management, wastewater treatment and environmental protection. Product lifetimes are critical for the circular economy, resource efficiency, waste reduction and low carbon strategies for sustainability, and are therefore of interest to academics from many different disciplines as well as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and other stakeholders. The challenges related to product lifetimes must be tackled from multiple perspectives, making the sharing of knowledge and expertise from different disciplines particularly important. This book presents papers from the second Product Lifetime and the Environment (PLATE) conference, held in Delft, the Netherlands, in November 2017. The conference originated from the desire to bring together academic researchers working in the field of sustainability to benefit from each other’s knowledge and further advance the field. Intelligent Environments (IE) play an increasingly important role in many areas of our lives, including education, healthcare and the domestic environment. The term refers to physical spaces incorporating pervasive computing technology used to achieve specific goals for the user, the environment or both. This book presents the proceedings of the workshops of the 9th International Conference on Intelligent Environments (IE ‘13), held in Athens, Greece, in July 2013. The workshops which were presented in the context of this conference range from regular lectures to practical sessions. They provide a forum for scientists, researchers and engineers from both industry and academia to engage in discussions on newly emerging or rapidly evolving topics in the field.
