Synopsis The Growth of the Kingdom of God (Classic Reprint) by : Sidney L. Gulick

Excerpt from The Growth of the Kingdom of God A satisfactory treatment would require many months of closet application and an entire volume for the presentation of the evidence. In spite of the comparative length of the chapter, he does not pretend to have treated the subject in any exhaustive way. Indeed, this may be said with equal truth of the whole book. Rather than a minute examination of the facts, he has sought to take a bird's-eye view of the outstanding features, the more conspicuous movements and growth of Christianity. The primary purpose, the Japanese audience, and the practical, rather than the theoretical interest and aim of the book, will thus account for certain of its features, which, if produced under different circumstances, it might not have had. Its value, however, may possibly be increased rather than diminished by these factors and features. His indebtedness to various writers and his sources of information are sufficiently indicated in the course of the successive chapters. His thanks are due to personal friends and kindred who have rendered very material assistance in the forms of stimulus, suggestions, and correction of the manuscript. The defects incident to the attempt to cover so much ground in a single brief work, none realise more than the author. Among such a mass of statistics, errors are inevitable. None will be more glad than the writer to have such pointed out and corrected. That this volume may find its niche of usefulness, and may help onward the growth of the Kingdom, is the one desire of its author. Synopsis The Kingdom of God by : Thomas Holmes

Excerpt from The Kingdom of God: Studies From the View-Point of "Our Father" About twenty years ago the author conceived the idea that there must be a theory of religion (which is only another name for a true life) that will commend itself to the judgment, and receive the approval, of every candid, reasonable Bible student - a theory on which all Christians can and will conscientiously unite. To suppose the contrary is to impeach both the wisdom and goodness of the omniscient and most loving of all fathers. Since He gave us the Bible as a revelation of truth, both respecting Himself and our relations to Him and to one another, and the duties that grow out of those relations, on its pages such a theory must be found. We must remember, however, that the Bible is what the inspiring Spirit intended to teach; not what sectarian bigots have claimed to find there. Synopsis The Kingdom of God and American Life (Classic Reprint) by : Chauncey Bunce Brewster

Excerpt from The Kingdom of God and American Life It were wise to face the fact that the social question is ultimately a moral question. It is time to recognize that its solution lies not in bio logical analogies, not in the exaltation of the State at the expense of the individual, nor again in the destruction of government, but in that gospel of the Kingdom of God which means the realization of certain ideals at once through social relations and through the highest and fullest development of personality. There are here included papers prepared for different occasions. Chapter VI was de livered as a sermon before Columbia University. Chapters IV and V are here reproduced by the courtesy of the editor of the North Ameri can Review. More recent articles in The Independent appear, with considerable change. Synopsis The Kingdom of God Developed According to the Inspired Records and Predictions by : George Wilson

Excerpt from The Kingdom of God Developed According to the Inspired Records and Predictions: Original in Plan, Investigation, and Execution; No Effort to Avoid or Adopt the Conclusions of Others; Things Old and New My judgment respecting future events rests upon that kind {of evidence called Plausibility, and I make no pretensions to inspiration. This work is not limited to the inspired programmes, but gives, also, a condensed, comprehensive, concomitant history, and is brought down from Adam to the present day. Here is the sacred history, or prophecy, and here are the facts of history collated with them. Look at the facts and think for yourself. Within ninety years the history Of the Kingdom Of God will be the Spine, or trunk line, Of all history. All nations will owe the importance Of their history to their contact with this history. All history must center in its history, and radiatefrom it. All Divine pro grammes due to the present time have been carried out, some are being per formed now, and all will be verified in due time; and Christ's people should understand the signs of the times and act accordingly. Now, here is a book Of facts coinciding with these Divine programmes, and showing in consecutive order what has passed, what is passing now, and what, in all plausibility, will yet be accomplished in this greatest Of works. Synopsis The Kingdom of God Biblically and Historically Considered (Classic Reprint) by : James S. Candlish

Excerpt from The Kingdom of God Biblically and Historically Considered I shall endeavour therefore, treating the subject historically, to take into account, not only the prepara tion for the Christian idea Of the kingdom of God in the line of God's special revelation to Israel, but also those aims and ideas of other nations that partially strove after the same end, and that came afterwards into contact, for good or evil, with the carrying out of Christ's ideal and aim. Synopsis The Teaching of Jesus Concerning the Kingdom of God, and the Church (Classic Reprint) by : Geerhardus Vos

Excerpt from The Teaching of Jesus Concerning the Kingdom of God, and the Church In the body of our Lord's teaching as recorded in the Gospels the references to the kingdom of God occupy a prominent place. According to the common testimony of the Synoptical Gospels Jesus opened his public ministry in Galilee with the announcement, that the kingdom was at hand, Matt. iv. 17; Mk. i. 15; Lk. iv. 43. In the last mentioned passage he even declares that the main purpose of his mission consists in the preaching of the good tidings of the kingdom of God.
