This book constitutes the revised selected papers of the First International Conference on Networked Systems, NETYS 2013, held in Marrakech, Morocco, in May 2013. The 33 papers (17 regular and 16 short papers) presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 74 submissions. They address major topics from theory and practice of networked systems: multi-core architectures, middleware, environments, storage clusters, as well as peer-to-peer, sensor, wireless, and mobile networks.

The main assumption behind the COOP conferences is that co-operative systems design requires a deep understanding of the co-operative work of dyads, groups and organizations, involving both artefacts and social conventions. The key topic of COOP'2000 was The Use of Theories and Models in Designing Cooperative Systems. Two opposite methodological approaches to co-operative system design can be clearly identified - a pragmatic approach or an approach based on theories and models. Objectives of the COOP'2000 Conference included: clarifying the reasons why one needs or does not need to use a theory or a model for design, comparing the pragmatic and the theory/model-based approaches, and identifying possible joint points between them, discussing the relevance of the theories/models with respect to the design of co-operative systems, to better delimit the respective application fields of the various theories/models, and to identify their possible joint points.

This volume addresses foundational issues of context-dependence and indexicality, which are at the center of the current debate within the philosophy of language. Topics include the scope of context-dependency, the nature of content and the character of input data of cognitive processes relevant for the interpretation of utterances. There's also coverage of the role of beliefs and intentions as contextual factors, as well as the validity of arguments in context-sensitive languages. The contributions consider foundational issues regarding context-sensitivity from three different, yet related, perspectives on the phenomenon of context-dependence: representational, structural, and functional. The contributors not only address the representational, structural and/or functional problems separately but also study their mutual connections, thus furthering the debate and bringing competing approaches closer to unification and consensus. Ijamama is a woman from the urban Hood who is accidentally discovered by a feminist magazine, Hot Heifer, after she stood up to a sexist law that allowed men to be topless in public but not women.
