Synopsis Moving Planets Around by : Javier Roa

An introduction to the laws of celestial mechanics and a step-by-step guide to developing software for direct use in astrophysics research. This book offers both an introduction to the laws of celestial mechanics and a step-by-step guide to developing software for direct use in astrophysics research. It bridges the gap between conventional textbooks, which present a rigorous and exhaustive exposition of theoretical concepts, and applying the theory to tackle real experiments. The text is written engagingly in dialogue form, presenting the research journey of the fictional Alice, Bob, and Professor Starmover. Moving Planets Around not only educates students on the laws of Newtonian gravity, it also provides all that they need to start writing their own software, from scratch, for simulating the dynamical evolution of planets and exoplanets, stars, or other heavenly bodies.

Synopsis Moving Around in Town by : Eleonora Canepari

The object of this book is intra-urban mobility, namely the diverse forms of mobility occuring within a city: from residential mobility to daily mobility, the latter understood both as commuting and as urban travel for leisure. The specific aim of the volume is to explore mobility in the city at different times, from the XVIIth century to today, and to relate it to the respective social dynamics from different standpoints, moving back and forth from the building to the neighbourhood and the wider metropolis, from Tunis to Paris, from Naples to Barcelone, passing through Rome, Milan and Marseille. The approach adopted is strongly multidisciplinary. The authors come from different disciplines - from History to Demography, from Sociology to Geography -, which has allowed to decline the study of intra-urban mobility both through a look at individuals and their mobility practices and from a territorial and historical context. In so doing, a set of urban issues has been considered, such as social mobility, metropolization processes, migrations and inequalities, access to real estate market.

Synopsis Moving-With & Moving-Through Homelands, Languages & Memory by :

This book is a work of walkography: its central source is the use of walking as a mode of inquiry, which is shared through the ‘ography’ of an account or portrayal that is written, visual, performed. The ‘walk’ of this walkography is an embodied movement through space, as well as a performance ‘drawing’, of experience and encounter. This method of inquiry resonates with the fundamental premise of this work, that of migration and diaspora. In 2015, an unprecedented number of migrants and refugees reached Europe. The resultant crisis was the biggest in history, with most migrants entering Europe by sea. Although under different circumstances and different times, this event has synergies with post-War migration, described through the lens of Arts-based research in Displacement, Identity and Belonging: An Arts-based, Auto/Biographical Portrayal of Ethnicity & Experience (Sense, 2015). This work is a sequel to that book. It is an extension of the themes of identity, belonging and migration; however, it is also a development and a complete work in and of itself, both embedded in and transcendent of the first book. The books can operate both in tandem and individually as stand-alone works. The layering of stories, photography, and poetry build upon each other in an engaging and accessible reading that appeals to a multitude of audiences and purposes. This work can be used as a core reading in a range of courses in education, teacher education, ethnicity studies, cultural studies, sociology, psychology, history, and communication, or read simply for pleasure. The book makes significant contributions to the literature on qualitative research, arts-based research, and walking research. “Stunning, simply stunning. Alexandra Lasczik Cutcher has created a breathtaking work of scholarship that is evocative and provocative, poetic and artistic, and perhaps most of all, captivating and challenging. She calls us into her walkography and we are spellbound – walking with her through her homelands, memories and languages. The interruptions of poems and images give pause as we take a breath to linger in our own stories, before we venture forward again, to breathe in again the images and histories, past and present. The entire book is an event, an encounter, a walking-with and walking-through as we come to understand what it means to come home to a place we’ve never lived before. Stunning, simply stunning.” – Rita L. Irwin, Professor, Art Education, Distinguished University Scholar, The University of British Columbia Dr Alexandra Lasczik Cutcher is a multi-award winning academic at Southern Cross University, Australia. Her research focuses on what the Arts can be and do educationally, expressively, as research method, language, catharsis, reflective instrument and documented form. These understandings inform Alexandra’s teaching and her spirited advocacy for Arts education.

Synopsis The Handbook of Moving on or How to Survive When You Die! by : Karen Moss

Follow the story of a diverse group of people after they pass on or die. Discover their stories—what has happened to them and what may be about to happen. Follow on further with some of them while they attempt to make sense of their earthly lives and how their existence carries on, sometimes in unexpected ways. What they discover may be thought-provoking, challenging, or comforting. To you, the reader, this may depend on what your hopes and fears are, not only about death but about lessons in life. Read on and hear messages sent back to loved ones, or not-so-loved ones, left behind. Some of these messages may make you laugh, some may make you cry, but all will make you, the reader, think. The story is one-third imagination, one-third experience, and one-third reported stories from people encountered in daily life over many years. Enjoy!

Synopsis The Moving City by : Rashmi Sadana

The Moving City is a rich and intimate account of urban transformation told through the story of Delhi's Metro, a massive infrastructure project that is reshaping the city's social and urban landscapes. Ethnographic vignettes introduce the feel and form of the Metro and let readers experience the city, scene by scene, stop by stop, as if they, too, have come along for the ride. Laying bare the radical possibilities and concretized inequalities of the Metro, and how people live with and through its built environment, this is a story of women and men on the move, the nature of Indian aspiration, and what it takes morally and materially to sustain urban life. Through exquisite prose, Rashmi Sadana transports the reader to a city shaped by both its Metro and those who depend on it, revealing a perspective on Delhi unlike any other.
