Synopsis Chemical Analysis of Food: Techniques and Applications by : Yolanda Picó
"The book contains twenty three chapters written by experts on the subject, is structured in two parts: the first one describes the role of the latest developments in analytical and bioanalytical techniques, and the second one deals with the most innovative applications and issues in food analysis. The two first introductory chapters about sampling technique, from basic one to the most recent advances, which is still a food challenge because is responsible of the quality and assurance of the analysis, and on data analysis and chemometrics are followed by a review of the most recently applied techniques in process (on-line) control and in laboratories for the analysis of major or minor compounds of food. These techniques ranged from the non-invasive and non-destructive ones, such as infrared spectroscopy, magnetic resonance and ultrasounds, to emerging areas as nanotechnology, biosensors and electronic noses and tongues, including those already well-established in food analysis, such as chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques. These chapters also include two important tools for solving problems in chemical and biological analysis such as mass spectrometry and molecular-based techniques"--Provided by publisher.

Synopsis The Palgrave Handbook of Heterogeneity among Family Firms by : Esra Memili
This handbook is the definitive source of research on the differences among family firms. It provides a timely and thorough investigation of the variant strategies and behaviors undertaken by family firms today, taking a closer look at different configurations of family involvement and how they influence outcomes and success. While studies on differences between family and non-family firms are deeply rooted in the literature, this handbook uniquely examines the family firm heterogeneity research to date and the inner firm governance, financial and non-financial objectives, and strategies such as innovation, competitive dynamics, internationalization, and human resources management. The handbook pulls together the work of the most prominent names in family business from around the world, separating itself from the competition both in content and geographical scope. Future research directions provided in each chapter will spark further interdisciplinary scholarly work, and will be enlightening for researchers, educators, and practitioners who are currently limited to the narrow and exclusive literature and advance the burgeoning research on this important topic.

Synopsis Iraq by : Tim Niblock
First Published in 1982, Iraq: The Contemporary State presents insights into the political, social, and economic developments in Iraq. The author argues that Iraq, is a country which the outside world will need increasingly to understand for the stability of the wider Gulf region. Unlike most Arab oil-producing states, moreover, Iraq has substantial agricultural and hydrocarbon resources. This book covers themes like class determination and state formation in Iraq; developments in the Kurdish Issue; emancipation of Iraqi women; eradication of illiteracy; economic relations between Iraq and other Arab Gulf states; Iraqi oil policy between 1961-1976; and western, Soviet and Egyptian influences on Iraq’s development planning. This book is an essential read for scholars and researchers of international relations, West Asian studies, Middle East studies, and international politics.

Synopsis A Course in Microeconomic Theory by : David M. Kreps
David M. Kreps has developed a text in microeconomics that is both challenging and "user-friendly." The work is designed for the first-year graduate microeconomic theory course and is accessible to advanced undergraduates as well. Placing unusual emphasis on modern noncooperative game theory, it provides the student and instructor with a unified treatment of modern microeconomic theory--one that stresses the behavior of the individual actor (consumer or firm) in various institutional settings. The author has taken special pains to explore the fundamental assumptions of the theories and techniques studied, pointing out both strengths and weaknesses. The book begins with an exposition of the standard models of choice and the market, with extra attention paid to choice under uncertainty and dynamic choice. General and partial equilibrium approaches are blended, so that the student sees these approaches as points along a continuum. The work then turns to more modern developments. Readers are introduced to noncooperative game theory and shown how to model games and determine solution concepts. Models with incomplete information, the folk theorem and reputation, and bilateral bargaining are covered in depth. Information economics is explored next. A closing discussion concerns firms as organizations and gives readers a taste of transaction-cost economics.

Synopsis Micro- and Macrodata of Firms by : Silvia Biffignandi
In industrial countries there is a strong interest in the international comparison of business data regarding productivity efficiency and competitiveness. This volume presents methods for the statistical analysis of micro- and macrodata of firms and for an international comparison of the aggregates. Case studies referring to specific countries play an important role for the development of economic hypotheses that should be tested at the international level.
