Synopsis The Making of a King by : Benjamin Osei Kuffour Jnr.

Information on the making of a king: the making of a king is a prerequisite to office politics. It places high premium on the processes we must go through before we get to the throne-where god wants to elevate us to. Despite the challenges in life especially the goliath challenge, god enables us to surmount all those insurmountable hurdles during our journey with him. Information on marriage is not a bed of roses: marriage is a sacred institution made by god but we humans use marriage contrary to how god designed it. Some ladies marry to please friends, prove a point to their parents, still others, marry because everybody is marrying. Some marry because they are frustrated with their growing. God created marriage for three main reasons: sharing, support and respect/honor. Information on turning failure into success: success is not something you do once but something you do repeatedly. Success is a culmination of hard work, preparation, perseverance, endurance, vision and an unremitting devotion to the things you wanna see happen. Information on things that destroy us: there are a lot of things we do that destroy us and I focused on three-bitterness, bad friends and greed. In life, never be bitter over past hurts and disappointment because it will poison every good thing that god has planted in you. Evil company corrupts good habits so do not joke with it. Never be greedy over anything in life because you will not be buried with your earthly possessions. Nothing lasts forever except god and his word.

Synopsis Letters of St. Therese of Lisieux, Volume I by : St. Therese of Lisieux

Letter writing at the end of the nineteenth century was an important activity for the people of France. Those who received letters from family and friends alike usually kept the hand-written texts sent to them as precious gifts. That is why this collection of letters by and to one of the greatest saints of modern times is so interesting to us today. No mere notes slapped together in distracted haste, the missives found in this volume reveal communications of warm personal sentiment along with expressions of lively spiritual development. Thérèse's efforts as a fifteen-year-old to enter Carmel before reaching the required age appear in revealing detail. This "tortuous course of a very subtle diplomacy" is set out not only by the letters of Thérèse herself, but also by those of so many others who shared her hopes and eventual victory. The translator-editor gives us 75 pages of introductory remarks to Thérèse's letters. This volume also includes 4 pages of facsimiles of Thérèse's letters.

Synopsis Saying Yes by : Albert Haase, OFM

What is God asking of me? How do I know if this is really of God and not simply my imagination? Should I follow my head or my heart? Discerning God's will is an ongoing process – not a static, one-time decision. Albert Haase, OFM, scholar of Christian spirituality and spiritual mentor to hundreds of people, reminds you that your ordinary life is the megaphone through which God communicates to you and to the world. Fr. Haase is known for offering clear, practical spiritual advice. This book is short, concise, practical, and written with real life examples and reflection questions, making the ancient practice of discernment appealing and understandable. "Albert Haase OFM reminds us that each of us is called to speak an ever deepening yes to God with our lives. The text centers around the most basic questions of the spiritual life: what are we living for, what keeps us from being fully alive? Haase offers a faithful and faith-filled reflection on both the simplicity and the complexity of Christian discernment and discipleship." — Most Reverend Donald Bolen, Bishop of Saskatoon "SAYING YES 'scratches where we itch.' Albert Haase, OFM has provided a blueprint and road map for discovering all the places, all the spaces and all the faces through which God speaks to us. Down-to-earth spirituality at its best!" — Most Reverend Fernand J. Cheri, III, OFM, Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans

Synopsis Edward Lloyd and His World by : Sarah Louise Lill

The publisher Edward Lloyd (1815-1890) helped shape Victorian popular culture in ways that have left a legacy that lasts right up to today. He was a major pioneer of both popular fiction and journalism but has never received extended scholarly investigation until now. Lloyd shaped the modern popular press: Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper became the first paper to sell over a million copies. Along with publishing songs and broadsides, Lloyd dominated the fiction market in the early Victorian period issuing Gothic stories such as Varney the Vampire (1845-7) and other 'penny dreadfuls', which became bestsellers. Lloyd's publications introduced the enduring figure of Sweeney Todd whilst his authors penned plagiarisms of Dickens's novels, such as Oliver Twiss (1838-9). Many readers in the early Victorian period may have been as likely to have encountered the author of Pickwick in a Lloyd-published plagiarism as in the pages of the original author. This book makes us rethink the early reception of Dickens. In this interdisciplinary collection, leading scholars explore the world of Edward Lloyd and his stable of writers, such as Thomas Peckett Prest and James Malcolm Rymer. The Lloyd brand shaped popular taste in the age of Dickens and the Chartists. Edward Lloyd and his World fills a major gap in the histories of popular fiction and journalism, whilst developing links with Victorian politics, theatre and music.
