Synopsis Gleanings from the Caves by : Torleif Elgvin
This special edition large format LSTS volume presents, over half of them for the first time, ten biblical and five non-biblical fragments from the Judean Desert. The text features 42 photographs of the fragments. The publication of seven new fragments from the Judean Desert will supplement the Discoveries in the Judean Desert series and bring new material to scholars regarding the full textual situation. Two of the new biblical fragments suggest the preservation of substantial textual variants. The new Aramaic fragment reveals the use of interesting linguistic forms. The book includes a 10 page essay by Martin Schoyen about how he has tracked down and acquired Judean Desert fragments and artifacts since 1994. The collection of images, photographs of the fragments, and scholarly commentary from some of the leading experts in the field gives the reader a comprehensive picture of the artifacts from Qumran. The fragments included are: 4QLeviticusi, 4QSamueld, 4QDeuteronomy, and 4Q Twelve prophets; New (additional) fragments of 4QPsalmsq and 4QExodusc; improved version of XJudges frg 3, 4QJoshuac, 1QDanielb, and 4QJoshuac; Apochryphal fragments - 4QTobita and 1QapocrGenesis; and, Other fragments - 1QSb (Rule of Blessings, reedition), 11QTemplea, and 4QAramaic frg.

Synopsis Gleanings in Exodus by : Arthur W. Pink
Historically, the book of Exodus treats of the deliverance of Israel from Egypt; but viewed doctrinally, it deals with redemption. Just as the first book of the Bible teaches that God elects unto salvation, so the second instructs us how God saves, namely, by redemption. Redemption, then, is the dominant subject of Exodus. Following this, we are shown what we are redeemed for-worship, and this characterizes Leviticus, where we learn of the holy requirements of God and the gracious provisions He has made to meet these. In Numbers we have the walk and warfare of the wilderness, where we have a typical representation of our experiences as we pass through this scene of sin and trial-our repeated and excuseless failures, and God's long-sufferance and faithfulness.

Synopsis Gleanings from an Unplanned Life by : James L. Buckley
"I was born in an elevator in New York City's Women's Hospital in the early hours of March 9, 1923. That was the first of a series of unplanned, unanticipatable events that have shaped my life. It was also a rather unceremonious way to enter the world. I wouldn't have entered it at all, however, had it not been for an allergy gene that caused my paternal grandfather, who was beset by asthma, to abandon Canada for the starker landscape of south Texas. At least it seems unlikely that my father would have courted my New Orleans mother if he had been reared in Canada." "I grew up in a small rural community located in the northwest corner of Connecticut beyond commuting range from anywhere. I loved the life there; and while bobbing around the Pacific as a naval officer in World War II, I decided on a career as a country lawyer. After four years learning the trade at a New Haven law firm in preparation for a move to the country, I was lured away by my father and found myself working for a family business headquartered in New York City. Then through a series of wildly improbable circumstances, beginning with the decision of my brother Bill to run for the office of mayor of New York City on the strict understanding that he could not win, I have found myself among the very few who have served in high positions in all three branches of the federal government; in my case, as a senator, an under secretary of state, and, most recently, as an appellate judge."

Neal Shusterman—along with collaborators David Yoon, Jarrod Shusterman, Sofía Lapuente, Michael H. Payne, Michelle Knowlden, and Joelle Shusterman—returns to the world throughout the timeline of the Arc of a Scythe series. Synopsis Gleanings in Europe by : James Fenimore Cooper
Describing Italy as "the only region of the earth that I truly love," James Fenimore Cooper used the style of picturesque impressionism to convey his vision of Italy as the microcosm of an ordered and a beautiful world. In theory, the picturesque style of writing could produce verbal sketches that embodied a visual complexity similar to that of the great Baroque and Romantic landscape paintings. In practice, the hundreds of travel books written in the picturesque style in the early 1900s communicated rapturous enthusiasm with blurred or even false reports of actual scenes. Cooper, with his scrupulous fidelity to the seen world, intended to alter this practice decisively. The response of his imagination to the light, color, forms, artifacts and figures of the Italian landscape and to the manifold significances they embody follows in joyful appreciation of the land, culture and people of a country that induced in him the desire "to enjoy the passing moment." In Italy, Cooper refrained from commenting on politics, though he was an incorrigibly political man who responded to an insistent need to define the New World in defining the Old. The independence of his observations drew censure from American reviewers of the 1830s, who could not comprehend that his preference for the Bay for Naples over New York Harbor reflected his intellectual passion to rise above nationalistic feelings in matters of taste, morality and justice.
