Synopsis Heart of the Liliko'i by : Dena Hankins

Human remains tangled in lilikoi roots bring the authorities to Kerala’s construction site. Native Hawaiians say the passion fruit vine marks an ancient burial ground protected by guardian spirits, the ’aumakua. But these aren’t ancestral bones. The fractured skull points to murder. Secrets, sabotage, and indigenous sovereignty campaigns hinder the project Kerala leads: building an eco-dream vacation home for Ravi, CEO of a solar power company. Proud to be a tough dyke in the trades, Kerala can’t believe she’s so hot for the masculine genderqueer scientist. Their sexual connection is volcanic, but Ravi’s craving for love and family aggravates burn scars from Kerala’s past. As the lovers pursue justice for Hawaii and its people, Ravi turns his gift for harnessing the sun’s strength toward cultivating his own power, and Kerala wonders if building deep, lasting love could be even more satisfying than constructing a home to last the ages.

Synopsis Schools That Dream: Transforming Kerala’s Schools into Empathy Engines by : Shashi Velath

AN IDEA THAT HAS SPARKED A SILENT REVOLUTION: THE STUDENT POLICE CADET SCHEME, WHICH HAS CONVERTED SCHOOLCHILDREN INTO CHANGEMAKERS, POLICE PERSONNEL INTO ENABLERS AND SCHOOLS INTO INNOVATION HUBS. Students carried a voting machine to a remote community in Attappady, encouraging the indigenous community there to vote for the first time. Yet other schoolchildren set up and implemented a waste-management system that changed the village community’s attitude to plastic use and waste segregation. Student cadets set up an aqua-farming project that sparked innovation in their community. An idea could change lives: teaming up schoolchildren with police personnel, both partners in change, each one impacting and sensitising the other. This is the idea behind the decade-old Student Police Cadet, or SPC, scheme in Kerala. Today, over 12,000 schools across India have implemented the programme, of which 1,000 are in Kerala. SPC anticipated the need to move beyond the usual measure of success in schools—high marks, sporting achievements, debating competitions—and towards becoming innovation hubs. Young people would need to be engaged with the challenges of a fast-changing world, becoming changemakers and agents of empathy. When P. Vijayan took over as the police commissioner of Kochi, he was actively engaged in community participation programmes for the police force he commanded. It was in the course of this that he struck upon the idea of bringing schools and the police force together. Over the years, SPC has transformed the attitudes of the police men and women who have been part of it, just as it has the lives of students.

Synopsis MALABAR MANUAL by William Logan by :

Commentary William Logan's Malabar is popularly known as ‘Malabar Manual’. It is a huge book of more than 500,000 words. It might not be possible for a casual reader to imbibe all the minute bits of information from this book. However, in this commentary of mine, I have tried to insert a lot of such bits and pieces of information, by directly quoting the lines from ‘Malabar’. On these quoted lines, I have built up a lot of arguments, and also added a lot of explanations and interpretations. I do think that it is much easy to go through my Commentary than to read the whole of William Logan's book 'Malabar'. However, the book, Malabar, contains much more items, than what this Commentary can aspire to contain. This book, Malabar, will give very detailed information on how a small group of native-Englishmen built up a great nation, by joining up extremely minute bits of barbarian and semi-barbarian geopolitical areas in the South Asian Subcontinent.

Synopsis Protestant Christianity in the Indian Diaspora by : Robbie B. H. Goh

This is the first comprehensive study of Protestant Christian religious identities in the Indian diaspora. Using qualitative interview methods, Robbie B. H. Goh captures the experiences of Indian Protestants in ten different countries and regions, describing how Indian communal Christian identities are negotiated and transformed in a variety of diasporic contexts ranging from Canada to Qatar. Goh argues that Christianity in India, developed within discrete and varied "ecologies," translates in the diaspora into a model of small communal churches that struggle with issues of community maintenance, evangelical growth, and Pentecostal influences. He looks at the significance of Christianity's "abject" position in India, the interplay and tension between evangelicalism and Pentecostalism, Pentecostalism's insistence on religious endogamy (particularly among women), intrareligious differences along generational lines, the actions of Hindutva hard-line elements, and other factors, in the construction and transformation of diasporic religious identities and affective attachments to India.
