Her sarcasm manages to amuse me whether she’s being tortured in the academy for demons in Hell or just arguing with the Fallen One in Heaven. Great world building, and the best and most sarcastic characters.” ★★★★★ “Claire Chilton not only conjures a YA fantasy world brimming with magical creatures like vampires, werewolves, zombies, angels, demons, succubus, dragons, elves, fae, fairies, ghosts, gods, shapeshifters and a whole range of mythical monsters, she also creates a few of her own. Were-squirrels, anyone?” ★★★★★ “If you’re looking for a dark teen comedy that is the goth lovechild of Deadpool and Buffy, then look no further. The novels in this series are fast-paced, dogma-driven, satires that focus on an outcast teenage girl who uses witty banter and a spellbook to become a witch and travel to Hell and back. With light humor and a lot of lols along the way, this Sabrina-like heroine explores the horror of death and darkness in even the most heavenly places.” ★★★★★ “An entertaining, humorous and romantic paranormal novel that kept me up past midnight because I couldn’t put it down.” ★★★★★ “When the demon lord you’re dating takes you home to meet his undead family, and then you’re forced to attend school in Hell, you know the romance is going to get a bit weird. This was a fun unearthly romp that will make you laugh out loud. The first story is a bit short, but it’s also free. The stories aren’t overly romantic, so they’re great for older teenage boys and girls.” ★★★★★ “Deliciously thrilling and wickedly silly from the grave and back! If you’re tired of depressed heroines, then enjoy this feisty female protagonist as she travels on the road to Hell with nothing but her spells, soul chips and wits to keep her alive.” ★★★★★ “A must-read series of sorcery, comedy, witches and demons. Synopsis Divine Feminine by : Joy Dixon

Honorable Mention for the Wallace K. Ferguson Prize from the Canadian Historical AssociationChosen by Choice Magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title of 2003 In 1891, newspapers all over the world carried reports of the death of H. P. Blavatsky, the mysterious Russian woman who was the spiritual founder of the Theosophical Society. With the help of the equally mysterious Mahatmas who were her teachers, Blavatsky claimed to have brought the "ancient wisdom of the East" to the rescue of a materialistic West. In England, Blavatsky's earliest followers were mostly men, but a generation later the Theosophical Society was dominated by women, and theosophy had become a crucial part of feminist political culture. Divine Feminine is the first full-length study of the relationship between alternative or esoteric spirituality and the feminist movement in England. Historian Joy Dixon examines the Theosophical Society's claims that women and the East were the repositories of spiritual forces which English men had forfeited in their scramble for material and imperial power. Theosophists produced arguments that became key tools in many feminist campaigns. Many women of the Theosophical Society became suffragists to promote the spiritualizing of politics, attempting to create a political role for women as a way to "sacralize the public sphere." Dixon also shows that theosophy provides much of the framework and the vocabulary for today's New Age movement. Many of the assumptions about class, race, and gender which marked the emergence of esoteric religions at the end of the nineteenth century continue to shape alternative spiritualities today.

Synopsis The Crucifixion of the Warrior God by : Gregory A. Boyd

A dramatic tension confronts every Christian believer and interpreter of Scripture: on the one hand, we encounter images of God commanding and engaging in horrendous violence: one the other hand, we encounter the non-violent teachings and example of Jesus, whose loving, self-sacrificial death and resurrection is held up as the supreme revelation of God’s character in the New Testament. How do we reconcile the tension between these seemingly disparate depictions? Are they even capable of reconciliation? Throughout Christian history, many different answers have been proposed, ranging from the long-rejected explanation that these contrasting depictions are of two entirely different ‘gods’ to recent social and cultural theories of metaphor and narrative representation. The Crucifixion of the Warrior God takes up this dramatic tension and the range of proposed answers in an epic constructive investigation. Over two volumes, renowned theologian and biblical scholar Gregory A. Boyd argues that we must take seriously the full range of Scripture as inspired, including its violent depictions of God. At the same time, we must take just as seriously the absolute centrality of the crucified and risen Christ as the supreme revelation of God. Developing a theological interpretation of Scripture that he labels a “cruciform hermeneutic,” Boyd demonstrates how Scripture’s violent images of God are completely reframed and their violence subverted when they are interpreted through the lens of the cross and resurrection. Indeed, when read through this lens, Boyd argues that these violent depictions can be shown to bear witness to the same self-sacrificial character of God that was supremely revealed on the cross.

This collection explores the question of whether it is possible to re-concieve the catagory of trancendence from a feminist perspective. The contributors use the concept of transcendence to approach questions relating to the body, desire, and subjectivity, while offering a response to secular relativism.

Synopsis Art, Nature, and Self-Formation in the Age of Goethe by : Gerad Gentry

This volume looks to core ideas defining Goethe’s work and his influence on his contemporaries and inheritors. Contributions to this volume explore his impact through ideas of organic and aesthetic formation; methods of biology, reason, becoming, and Bildung; modes of self-conscious comportment to nature, art, and the self; and conceptions of finitude and divinity. This volume underscores the interdisciplinary impact of Goethe’s thought and work. Of particular note is Goethe's unified and non-reductive account of nature, human education, social life, and reason. These contributions shed light on how Goethe's thought furthers the methodological sciences of his day while yielding resources for the grounding of theories of art in principles of idealism as well as imminent critiques of idealism through insights about organic formation and activity. The result is a compelling sense of unity through plurality. Contributors: James Conant, Richard Eldridge, Camilla Flodin, Michael Forster, Gerad Gentry, Keren Gorodeisky, Johannes Haag, Joel Lande, Lara Ostaric, Mattias Pirholt, Anne Pollok, Karin Schutjer, Allen Speight, Joan Steigerwald, Violetta Waibel, David Wellbery.
