Synopsis Hyperbolic Complex Spaces by : Shoshichi Kobayashi

In the three decades since the introduction of the Kobayashi distance, the subject of hyperbolic complex spaces and holomorphic mappings has grown to be a big industry. This book gives a comprehensive and systematic account on the Carathéodory and Kobayashi distances, hyperbolic complex spaces and holomorphic mappings with geometric methods. A very complete list of references should be useful for prospective researchers in this area.

Synopsis Analytic Functions of Several Complex Variables by : Robert Clifford Gunning

The theory of analytic functions of several complex variables enjoyed a period of remarkable development in the middle part of the twentieth century. This title intends to provide an extensive introduction to the Oka-Cartan theory and some of its applications, and to the general theory of analytic spaces.

Synopsis Complex Analysis on Infinite Dimensional Spaces by : Sean Dineen

Infinite dimensional holomorphy is the study of holomorphic or analytic func tions over complex topological vector spaces. The terms in this description are easily stated and explained and allow the subject to project itself ini tially, and innocently, as a compact theory with well defined boundaries. However, a comprehensive study would include delving into, and interacting with, not only the obvious topics of topology, several complex variables theory and functional analysis but also, differential geometry, Jordan algebras, Lie groups, operator theory, logic, differential equations and fixed point theory. This diversity leads to a dynamic synthesis of ideas and to an appreciation of a remarkable feature of mathematics - its unity. Unity requires synthesis while synthesis leads to unity. It is necessary to stand back every so often, to take an overall look at one's subject and ask "How has it developed over the last ten, twenty, fifty years? Where is it going? What am I doing?" I was asking these questions during the spring of 1993 as I prepared a short course to be given at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro during the following July. The abundance of suit able material made the selection of topics difficult. For some time I hesitated between two very different aspects of infinite dimensional holomorphy, the geometric-algebraic theory associated with bounded symmetric domains and Jordan triple systems and the topological theory which forms the subject of the present book.

Synopsis Complex Functions by : Gareth A. Jones

An elementary account of many aspects of classical complex function theory, including Mobius transformations, elliptic functions, Riemann surfaces, Fuchsian groups and modular functions. The book is based on lectures given to advanced undergraduate students and is well suited as a textbook for a second course in complex function theory.

Synopsis The Calculus of Complex Functions by : William Johnston

The book introduces complex analysis as a natural extension of the calculus of real-valued functions. The mechanism for doing so is the extension theorem, which states that any real analytic function extends to an analytic function defined in a region of the complex plane. The connection to real functions and calculus is then natural. The introduction to analytic functions feels intuitive and their fundamental properties are covered quickly. As a result, the book allows a surprisingly large coverage of the classical analysis topics of analytic and meromorphic functions, harmonic functions, contour integrals and series representations, conformal maps, and the Dirichlet problem. It also introduces several more advanced notions, including the Riemann hypothesis and operator theory, in a manner accessible to undergraduates. The last chapter describes bounded linear operators on Hilbert and Banach spaces, including the spectral theory of compact operators, in a way that also provides an excellent review of important topics in linear algebra and provides a pathway to undergraduate research topics in analysis. The book allows flexible use in a single semester, full-year, or capstone course in complex analysis. Prerequisites can range from only multivariate calculus to a transition course or to linear algebra or real analysis. There are over one thousand exercises of a variety of types and levels. Every chapter contains an essay describing a part of the history of the subject and at least one connected collection of exercises that together comprise a project-level exploration.

Synopsis Function Spaces by : Krzysztof Jarosz

This proceedings volume presents 36 papers given by leading experts during the Third Conference on Function Spaces held at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. A wide range of topics in the subject area are covered. Most papers are written for nonexperts, so the book can serve as a good introduction to the topic for those interested in this area. The book presents the following broad range of topics, including spaces and algebras of analytic functions of one and of many variables, $Lp$ spaces, spaces of Banach-valued functions, isometries of function spaces, geometry of Banach spaces and related subjects. Known results, open problems, and new discoveries are featured. At the time of publication, information about the book, the conference, and a list and pictures of contributors are available on the Web at www.siue.edu/MATH/conference.htm.

Synopsis Composition Operators on Spaces of Analytic Functions by : Carl C. Cowen Jr.

The study of composition operators lies at the interface of analytic function theory and operator theory. Composition Operators on Spaces of Analytic Functions synthesizes the achievements of the past 25 years and brings into focus the broad outlines of the developing theory. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the linear operators of composition with a fixed function acting on a space of analytic functions. This new book both highlights the unifying ideas behind the major theorems and contrasts the differences between results for related spaces. Nine chapters introduce the main analytic techniques needed, Carleson measure and other integral estimates, linear fractional models, and kernel function techniques, and demonstrate their application to problems of boundedness, compactness, spectra, normality, and so on, of composition operators. Intended as a graduate-level textbook, the prerequisites are minimal. Numerous exercises illustrate and extend the theory. For students and non-students alike, the exercises are an integral part of the book. By including the theory for both one and several variables, historical notes, and a comprehensive bibliography, the book leaves the reader well grounded for future research on composition operators and related areas in operator or function theory.

Synopsis Topics in Complex Function Theory, Volume 3 by : Carl Ludwig Siegel

Develops the higher parts of function theory in a unified presentation. Starts with elliptic integrals and functions and uniformization theory, continues with automorphic functions and the theory of abelian integrals and ends with the theory of abelian functions and modular functions in several variables. The last topic originates with the author and appears here for the first time in book form.
