Synopsis Think Consumer by : Jamil Ammar
The availability of a wide range of branded products makes the selection of the right type of goods a difficult process. This is particularly true in the case of goods whose characteristics consumers do not have complete information about, which they can only learn about after purchasing (experiencing goods). A trade mark quality guarantee facilitates consumers’ choice by sending quality signals. It also enables a trader of branded goods to differentiate the quality of his goods from those of his competitors. Accordingly, trade mark protection is said to enhance economic efficiency, and thus the production of quality goods, and reduce consumer search costs. In order for this to work, however, among other conditions, the trader must maintain consistent quality over time and across consumers. Otherwise, trade mark protection will enhance artificial product differentiation, and thus distort competition. To date, despite its profound significance, the quality guarantee is seen as performing an economic function that trade mark law is ill equipped to deal with. As a result, this function is not enforced under trade mark law. Contrary to mainstream thinking, this book argues that the quality function of a trade mark should be recognised and enforced through trade mark law. What is at stake is far from insignificant: it is about bridging the ever increasing gap between the legal rationales for trade mark protection and the economic consequences of this protection in practice. The book is also about how consumers should shape their relationship with trade marks and what role law should play in constructing that relationship. By giving independent legal substance to the quality function, trade mark law encourages a trader to improve the quality of his goods instead of simply improving the persuasive or advertising value of the mark, which, in turn, enhances artificial product differentiation, increases rather than decreases consumer search costs, and distorts competition.

Synopsis Light Pollution Handbook by : Kohei Narisada
Constituting the first holistic overview including practical remedies, this handbook provides the background needed by anyone grappling with the complex issue of outdoor lighting and its effects. It describes not only the problems that astronomers and other night sky observers face in reducing the problems of information loss due to light pollution, as well as the problems lighting technologists face in optimising outdoor lighting installations that cause little or no light pollution. The first part is directed to decision makers and managers of outdoor space and covers the areas of general interest, culminating in recommendations to reduce the impact of light pollution. The second part is directed primarily to scientists and engineers, as a support to the design and maintenance of outdoor lighting installations, with special reference to astronomical observations. Elaborating issues from the first part, these contributions include examples that refer to specific outdoor lighting projects and to more general policy and educational measures. Written for designers of lighting equipment and managers of astronomical observatories, but also aimed at the authorities and decision makers responsible for the organization and maintenance of the public space, it will serve a good purpose in graduate or postgraduate curricula for scientists, engineers, economists and law students. This handbook fills the gap that exists between astronomical textbooks, engineering texts and popular brochures about light pollution.

Synopsis The Applicability of Night Time Remote Sensing Data in Indian Context to Analyze Urban Dynamics by : Avanesh Kumar Singh
Urbanization is a basic element of human society's dynamics. It is a process of transformation from traditional, rural economies to modern, commercial one that comes with changes at spatial, social, economical and environmental level. Urbanization not only concentrates people(less than 3%%%% area of the globe is urbanized) it also creates hot spot for energy consumption, natural resource consumption and emission of pollutants and greenhouse gases, and act as nodes linking communication and transport infrastructure- themselves all too often a source of pressure on the surrounding environment (Herald Martin, 2010)

Synopsis Surrender Dorothy by : Linda Tagliamonte
Living with someone who has a serious medical condition can be a challenge. This book reflects on one such case, that of a sixteen-year love relationship in which one of the partners suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), a potentially debilitating disease. Over the years, the sickness takes its toll, gradually changing one partner from independent to dependent, and the other from lover to caregiver. The emotional difficulties the couple endures are understandable to anyone who has experienced such a relationship.
