Synopsis Jeanneret Chandigarh by : Jacques Dworczak

"The City of Chandigarh puts us in touch with the infinite cosmos and nature. It provides us with places and buildings for all human activities by which the citizens can live a full and harmonious life. Here the radiance of nature and heart are within our reach." - Le Corbusier Upon India's independence, Jawaharlal Nehru, its first Prime Minister, dreamed of "a new town, an expression of the nation's faith in the future." The incarnation of Nehru's vision, the city of Chandigarh was the brainchild of renowned modernist architect Le Corbusier, born of his utopian dream of an avant-garde city, and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, who oversaw production of thousands of objects that furnished it. Recently, record prices at auction for these pieces have brought awareness of this great project and its creators to a broader public. This catalogue raisonne sheds new light on this visionary urban project that is generating growing interest among design aficionados around the world. 400 illustrations

Synopsis Ajit Singh of Cambridge and Chandigarh by : Ashwani Saith

This book examines the life and work of Ajit Singh (1940-2015), a leading radical post-Keynesian applied economist who made major contributions to the policy-oriented study of both developed and developing economies, and was a key figure in the life and evolution of the Cambridge Faculty of Economics. Unorthodox, outspoken, and invariably rigorous, Ajit Singh made highly significant contributions to industrial economics, corporate governance and finance, and stock markets – developing empirically sound refutations of neoclassical tenets. He was much respected for his challenges both to orthodox economics, and to the one-size-fits-all free-market policy prescriptions of the Bretton Woods institutions in relation to late-industrialising developing economies. Throughout his career, Ajit remained an analyst and apostle of State-enabled accelerated industrialisation as the key to transformative development in the post-colonial Global South. The author traces Ajit Singh’s radical perspectives to their roots in the early post-colonial nationalist societal aspirations for self-determination and autonomous and rapid egalitarian development – whether in his native Punjab, India, or the third world – and further explores the nuanced interface between Ajit’s simultaneous affinity, seemingly paradoxical, both with socialism and Sikhism. This intellectual biography will appeal to students and researchers in Development Economics, History of Economic Thought, Development Studies, and Post-Keynesian Economics, as well as to policy makers and development practitioners in the fields of industrialisation, development and finance within the strategic framework of contemporary globalisation.

Synopsis Chandigarh Revealed by : Shaun Fynn

The unlikely story of Le Corbusier and Chandigarh has proven itself to be one of modernisms boldest experiments. Born of a vision of a modern India, Chandigarhdesigned by Le Corbusierwas created as a statement for an emerging modern nationstate. Its Capitol Complex, considered by many as Le Corbusiers masterpiece, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016. Like all visionaries, Le Corbusier was adept at taking the iconic and symbolic and using them to fashion his own unique vocabulary. This volume explores the way in which his ideas created fertile grounds for architecture and urban planning in Chandigarh, and in India, that encapsulated the visions of the post-war and post-colonial era. With insightful analyses of buildings across Chandigarh, the author illuminates the compositional poetry evident in Le Corbusiers structures and the ways in which the patina of time has changed the city. A visceral journey through a remarkable modernist landscape using the photographic medium, Chandigarh Revealed pays homage to the works of a master with reflective observations of a living city.

This Data Note describes the trends for a set of key nutrition and health outcomes, determinants, and coverage of interventions. The findings are based on estimates using unit-level data, data from national and state reports from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-3 (2005-2006) and NFHS-4 (2015-2016), and data from state factsheets and reports from NFHS-5 (2019-2021). In addition to standard prevalence-based analyses, this Data Note includes headcount-based analyses aligned to the POSHAN Abhiyaan monitoring framework to provide evidence that helps identify priority districts and number of districts in the state with public health concern as per the WHO guidelines. The Data Note includes a color-coded dashboard to compare the coverage of nutrition interventions across all the districts in the state. It concludes with key takeaways for children, women, and men, and identifies areas where the state has potential to improve.
