Synopsis Believe Nothing You Hear, and Only One Half that You Say by : Thomas Oliver

"By removing all of the text except for dialogue in this book of classical tales, I have highlighted the importance of context in regards to what we say, how we say it, who is speaking and who is listening. The title is a reference to a line in 'The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether', a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, where a character breaks the fourth wall and addresses the narrator proclaiming: "Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see". The voice of all characters within a story is considered to be their own, however it is only ever a surrogate for the authorU+2019s." -- Artist's statement.

Synopsis Nietzsche's Corps/e by : Geoff Waite

Appearing between two historical touchstones--the alleged end of communism and the 100th anniversary of Nietzsche's death--this book offers a provocative hypothesis about the philosopher's afterlife and the fate of leftist thought and culture. At issue is the relation of the dead Nietzsche (corpse) and his written work (corpus) to subsequent living Nietzscheanism across the political spectrum, but primarily among a leftist corps that has been programmed and manipulated by concealed dimensions of the philosopher's thought. If anyone is responsible for what Geoff Waite maintains is the illusory death of communism, it is Nietzsche, the man and concept. Waite advances his argument by bringing Marxist--especially Gramscian and Althusserian--theories to bear on the concept of Nietzsche/anism. But he also goes beyond ideological convictions to explore the vast Nietzschean influence that proliferates throughout the marketplace of contemporary philosophy, political and literary theory, and cultural and technocultural criticism. In light of a philological reconstruction of Nietzsche's published and unpublished texts, Nietzsche's Corps/e shuttles between philosophy and everyday popular culture and shows them to be equally significant in their having been influenced by Nietzsche--in however distorted a form and in a way that compromises all of our best interests. Controversial in its "decelebration" of Nietzsche, this remarkable study asks whether the postcontemporary age already upon us will continue to be dominated and oriented by the haunting spectre of Nietzsche's corps/e. Philosophers, intellectual historians, literary theorists, and those interested in western Marxism, popular culture, Friedrich Nietzsche, and the intersection of French and German thought will find this book both appealing and challenging.

Synopsis Detroit, Lenacrave and Cleveland by : Brooke

I was almost as hard headed as it gets while repeatedly insisting on missing and ignoring the entire point that Mom and a few others tried to get me to realize. GET YOUR EDUCATION!!! I still had some great times here and there every now and then, and I can only imagine how beautiful-my-life-would-have-been if I would have followed the The Golden Rules. Some wonderful things have happened to me even though I still feel that I truly did not deserve or even know how to sincerely enjoy thoroughly, but on the other hand, some not so wonderful things have happened to me that I basically brought on myself as a direct result of not following The Golden Rules. EDUCATION IS A MUST!!! I know my family was not the only family that has gone through a divorce, and I know there are millions of kids who went through divorce without a scratch. I am not blaming any of my failures as a man on the pitfalls of divorce, but I can clearly see now that my character flaws were a direct hit stemming from the casualties of my parents divorce. I did not ask to be me, and I certainly did not ask or expect to be stuck on stupid for almost three tenths of a century. It was what it was! If I would have known their divorce would eventually effect me which I believe set the wheels in motion that turned towards me turning out the way I have, I would have started Praying that night. But I had no idea it would, and neither did they. I can only imagine how beautiful my life would have been if their marriage was meant to be, but it was not about me. Brooke!

Synopsis Humanity in Trouble and Our Failure to Act by : James Vodnik

Mankind is on a crash course with destiny and doesn’t seem to have a clue! We are witnessing rapidly accelerating global warming of our own making that could potentially result in species extinctions, including our own. Witness widespread signs of the impending disaster including super storms, record drought, floods, forest fires and climate refugees. Dangerous nuclear saber rattling by Russia and North Korea is on the upswing and the Russian invasion of Ukraine threatens to expand to Western Europe. The increasing number of fascist, autocratic, dictator-run states such as China, North Korea, Turkey, and Brazil are snuffing individual freedoms, denying social justice and fanning the flames of global conflict. The world’s population is rapidly approaching eight billion and is well past the point of Earth’s ability to sustain us. Crushing poverty, starvation, and dozens of militarized religious and ethnic conflicts. We have polluted our planet with toxic chemicals, oil spills, reckless dumping of trash on land and sea, contaminating the oceans with fish and fowl killing plastic waste. This book is the result of overwhelming outrage and disappointment with our species, our failure to adequately address worldwide problems that threaten our very existence. We (if there is a ‘we’) should be embarrassed and ashamed. Nature has endowed us with near perfect bodies and amazing brains and for the most part we squander our evolutionary inheritance. And the greatest gift of all, consciousness, is under-developed in most of us. In this collection of essays, the author offers insights into the human condition, the reasons we have run afoul of the natural order, along solutions to alleviate human suffering on an individual and global scale plus some playful jabs at our human folly.

Synopsis When the Air Comes Out of the Ball by : Jr Inman

To some sports is just a hobby. To others, it is a way of life. Athletics have become a primary component of American culture, as well as other cultures throughout the entire world. It provides principles of work ethic, leadership, teamwork, and unity. For the most part, fans can't help but appreciate the blood, sweat, and tears athletes shed during competition. Spectators should value the dedication that enables elite athletes to perform at high levels. Although championships can be fun to watch, one thing both athletes and fans should understand is that sports don't last forever. Seventy-eight percent of all former NFL players and 60 percent of all retired NBA players face bankruptcy or financial hardship within five years after retirement. The reason for these horrid statistics results from a number of different factors. The most common problem retired players face is their failure to develop a plan that will promote prosperity after they have played their last game. When the Air Comes Out of the Ball is an inspirational autobiography written by Gerald H. Inman, Jr. It serves to educate readers about both the glamour and rigor of professional sports. This will inspire young people to perceive and utilize their gifts as a window of opportunity to make their wildest dreams become reality.
