Synopsis Rollercoaster Ride with Brain Injury (For Loved Ones) by : Sylvia Behnish
A Rollercoaster Ride With Brain Injury (For Loved Ones) has been written to assist those who are experiencing a similar tragedy to realize they are not alone. By reading my story it will help them adjust to the monumental changes in their life and that of their injured family member. They will learn that it is sometimes two steps forward and one step back. In the days ahead; they will learn not to take things personally if their brain injured loved one becomes angry or verbally abusive and they will discover the importance of setting boundaries. As well, it is important not to feel guilty if they wish time for themselves or if they occasionally feel frustrated; their life has changed also. Initially the most crucial things to do are to ask the right questions; take control of the situation; be proactive; be their own advocate for their injured family member and realize the necessity of having support. These are vital when battling cognitive and behavioral problems, frustration and anger management difficulties, confusion and short-term memory loss as well as other brain injury impairments. Included with my story are sample cognitive exercises that we used at an early stage in Larry's development which helped immensely in his progress towards recovery. As time goes on they will learn that there are adaptations and adjustments that will be necessary to make for their new life. There will also be many bumps in the road. Any road that is not travelled alone makes the trip much easier. By reading Rollercoaster Ride With Brain Injury (For Loved Ones), the reader will realize they are not alone; many others have travelled the road before them.

Synopsis Ice Blues by : Richard Stevenson
Someone's left a man's body in Donald Strachey's car -- the grandson of Albany's most connected political fixer. A letter from the deceased asks Strachey to dismantle his grandfather's party machine. Like a chess master, Strachey moves ten suitcases, an army of colorful pawns (all of whom think they're king), and $2.5 million across the continent and around Albany. One of the funniest in the series. (Filmed for release by HereTV in 2008; originally published 1986.)

Synopsis Black Cherry Blues by : James Lee Burke
In this Edgar Award-winning thriller, former Louisiana homicide cop Dave Robicheaux is trying to start a new life after the murder of his wife — but he can't escape his past forever. Dave Robicheaux was once a Louisiana homicide cop. Now he's trying to start a new life, opening up a fishing business and caring for his adopted girl, Alafair. Compared to Louisiana, Robicheaux thought Montana would be safe — until two Native American activists suddenly go missing. When Robicheaux begins investigating, he is led into the dark world of the Mafia and oil companies. At the same time, someone from his past comes back to haunt him. Someone who was responsible for Robicheaux's flight from New Orleans — someone who brutally murdered his wife — and now is after young Alafair... Winner of the Edgar Award for Best Novel, Black Cherry Blues spans from the mystical streets of New Orleans to the endless mountains of Montana, and ranks among James Lee Burke's finest work — an enduring classic, darkly beautiful and thrilling.

Synopsis Morbid Curiosity Cures the Blues by : Loren Rhoads
For ten years, Morbid Curiosity was a one-of-a-kind underground magazine that gained a devoted following for its celebration of absurd, grotesque, and unusual tales -- all true -- submitted from contributors around the country and across the world. Loren Rhoads, creator and editor of the magazine, has compiled some of her favorite stories from all ten issues in this sometimes shocking, occasionally gruesome, always fascinating anthology. This quirky book is filled with tales from ordinary people -- who just happen to have eccentric, peculiar interests. Ranging from the outrageous (attending a Black Mass, fishing bodies out of San Francisco Bay, making fake snuff films) to the more "mundane" (visiting a torture museum, tracking real vampires through San Francisco), this curiously enjoyable collection of stories, complete with illustrations and informative asides, will entertain and haunt readers long after the final page is turned.

Synopsis Human Blues by : Elisa Albert
“Crackling and bighearted...A powerhouse [that] echoes with the truth that we find harmony when we listen first to ourselves.” —Oprah Daily * “Takes off with magnificent speed and never lets up.” —The New York Times * “Revolutionary.” —NPR’s Morning Edition * A Los Angeles Times and Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year A provocative and “darkly funny” (Cosmopolitan) novel about a woman who desperately wants a child but struggles to accept the use of assisted reproductive technology—a “riotous, visceral” (Vanity Fair) send-up of feminism, fame, art, commerce, and autonomy. On the eve of her fourth album, singer-songwriter Aviva Rosner is plagued by infertility. The twist: as much as Aviva wants a child, she is wary of technological conception, and has poured her ambivalence into her music. As the album makes its way in the world, the shock of the response from fans and critics is at first exciting—and then invasive and strange. Aviva never wanted to be famous, or did she? Meanwhile, her evolving obsession with another iconic musician, gone too soon, might just help her make sense of things. Told over the course of nine menstrual cycles, this utterly original novel is a “fast, fiery, and often funny” (The Boston Globe) interrogation of our cultural obsession with childbearing. It’s also the story of one fearless woman at the crossroads, ruthlessly questioning what she wants and what she’s willing—or not willing—to do to get it.
